Forums - Nintendo - Will we have a proper 3D Mario game this gen?

I still consider 3d world and the galaxy games as no true 3d marios. good games, yes. but no 3d marios. I still can replay 64 and sunshine anytime. but galaxy und 3d world seems so boring after the first playthrough. I would be very glad over a sunshine remake.

Well, 3D World is just as good, if not better than any 3D Mario Game I played. Change the thread to "Will we get a Star Collecting Mario this gen because 3DW is a masterpiece. As for the answer, no. We won't. Nintendo is saving that for the next gen console, I'm sure of it. Mario might get a new game on 3DS but who knows what kind of platformer it'll be. Nintendo can pull rabbits out of hats quite easily.

They need something for November 2016

3D world is a 3D platformer, but I realise you mean 3D in the sense of explorable worlds.

But no, I think they will save it for the next console as a launch title. We'll get Mario Maker and that'll be the final Mario platforming game for Wii U.

NES, SNES, N64, GC, Wii, WiiU, GB, GBC, GBA, DS, 3DS, Mega Drive, Game Gear, PS1, PS2, PSP, XBOX 360, Atari Lynx

I really hope so.  I think 3D World is more or less a placeholder for a true 3D Mario. It's a great game, but it's no Galaxy.

Now that Mario Kart and Smash Bros. are out, really all that's left before Wii U has a solid library is a true 3D Mario and of course Zelda.

I also get the sense that 3D World was rushed out and pushed up earlier than Nintendo wanted, because of the Tropical Freeze delay at Retro.  They still needed a big holiday game, since Wii Party U was, laughably, not that game.

Probably not unfortunately.

3dworld is what I like to refer as a party 3d mario, it's great for multiplayer but it's singleplayer just isn't as enjoyable as sm64 or galaxy was for me.

we already have one.

From the OT: "Do you think Wii U will have a true 3D Mario game;in line with Mario 64 or Galaxy?"

3D World is technically a '3D Mario game', but it's very different from 64, Sunshine and Galaxy. It feels more like a 3D version of NSMB than a 'proper' 3D Mario game ('proper' is somewhat subjective, but we all know what's meant by it).

I implied that 3d world is a "proper 3d mario", despite all the whining we've seen so far.

We already have a proper 3D Mario, just because someone may prefer a different approach it doesn't negate SM3DW.

People should stop treating this line of questioning as an attack on 3dworld or that this somehow discredits the game and it's reputation needs to be defended.

3dworld is a great game, but it's distinctly different from previous entries. Mario has 3 distinct platforming series now.

New Super Mario Bros

3dland/3dworld

SM64/Sunshine/Galaxy

Perhaps the question should be rephrased as it is a 3d mario game, it's just part of a different series, like the paper mario and mario rpg series are different.

To be honest Galaxy already veered pretty far off from 64/Sunshine. Galaxy has more in common with 3D World than it does Sunshine.
