y u do dis 2 me :(
But I really do think it'll be at E3 in some form. Probably not playable, but I think it'll get a trailer or something. If not, we should assume the worst.

I agree with this. We should definitely see the game at E3, if it doesn't show then that means the project is experiencing trouble.
*sigh*
I knew the confirmation of an E3 appearance was too god to be true...
On the bright side, Shin Megami Tensei IV will be on sale for $15 on the eshop next week. As someone who has never held even a passing interest in the franchise, I have to say that this has tempted me enough to bite the bullet and buy it.
SMT x FE, as well as the newest Persona 5 trailer, has got me interested enough in both series to try it out. Seems like the perfect time. With any luck, a similar sale will happen for Fire Emblem Awakening to tempt me into buying my first foray into that franchise as well.

Fire Emblem Awakening is the best game in the franchise for beginners and hopefully when you buy it you will enjoy it.
SMT IV is very difficult to get into at first. So you will have to give it some time. (I suggest lowering the difficulty *which you can only do after you have died a few times* until you get the hang of it then adjust it back up if you feel like it)

Do note that mainline SMT's are much more niche than the Persona series even, and have an aquired taste. Expect a very old school JRPG with long dungeons. Don't expect the humor and light-heartedness of Persona. Expect something much more serious in tone. Also expect a much harder game. For this game especially, the tutorial is the hardest part. Just wanted to give you a heads up since SMT is a very different type of game from SMT: Persona (starting from three up.)

Hate to be a cynic, but we've gone two years with no information. No information since it was revealed. No information since the teaser with no ingame assets. We should already be assuming the worst.
We should be expecting it to be coming out this year, not hoping that it'll be talked about this year.

My ego's to big to lower the difficulty. If it's a well designed game, and is difficult because of strategy rather than grinding, I should have no problem getting through it.

Even though it would be nice for it to come out this year, I have a guess that due to all the games coming out near the end of this year, especially big hit titles, I feel like they will release SMT x FE to early 2016 (Jan or Feb) to reduce any droughts the console might have.

True. I'm just taking into consideration Atlus' long development times, neither studio having a ton of experience with HD development, Nintendo not liking to show info on games until the year they release (games like Smash being an exception), etc. 3 years with nothing will be my tipping point. It should be one of their main showcases at this year's E3, and if not, I'll just forget it ever existed.
With their holiday being so jam packed this year, I can see them wanting to release it early next year (assuming it will be done, of course). They also won't want to release FE If and SMTxFE in the same general time frame.
