I think if SNES big hitters go against Genesis big hitters, SNES wins easily.

Big titles aside, Genesis had some very innovative exclusive titles, a lot of which are not even that known.

Sega was also downright bonkers when it came to experimentation... Things like having to actually reset the console to reach the last level in Xmen, or all the secret stuff burried in Streets of Rage 3, or making an awesome Batman and Robin game and pairing it with the craziest techno trance music soundtrack, or the whole Gusntar Heroes game.

Combine that with a slew of absolutely original games like the Ooze, Comix Zone, Splaterhouse series, Mutant league Hockey, Herzog Zwei, Landstalker...makes the Genesis a more interesting console to me.

Oh yeah that's definitely true about Sega throughout their entire history. I get what you mean too, Sega games especially from the 16 and 32 bit era seem to have been overshadowed or forgotten, which is really a shame. Sega was really a talented developer, expanding into many genres along with arcade games, overall not afraid to try something new. What's also nice about Genesis is I find the games are pretty cheap now a days compared to SNES, it's also easy to find the games boxed. So it's a good console for beginners to collect for and a lot of hidden gems to find!

Agreed! I constantly add to my collection and do it fairly cheap...

Good luck to those that want to buy MUSHA, Splaterhouse 2 or 3 or Herzog Zwei though.

Both are great, but SNES has more gems.

Super Nintendo
However, Sega's Jurassic Park, Smash TV, Mortal Kombat ports, to name a few were superior to their SNES counterparts.

Mortal Kombat had terrible graphics and sound effects in the Genesis version. The only advantage it had was blood.

SNES all the way. The Genesis never had an equal to Super Metroid, A Link To The Past, or Fire Emblem: MYstery of the Emblem.

Super Metroid - no it doesn't, its one of the greatest games ever made

Link to the Past - Landstalker. Look it up and how much people love this game.

Fire Emblem - equal? no...but Shinig Force 2 is actually a better tactical RPG

Landstalker has an isometric view, right? And I could never get into the Shining Force games. It was really confusing. Maybe I shoud try again.

Well, the Genesis actually won the US so being that I am also from the US, I have to admit that I liked it better. It just seemed more edgy and it's games were more teen driven.

I ha both, but I think I liked the Genesis more.

genesis didn't win the US, it was winning for a while but it also had a 2 year headstart.  It did win in Europe.

Yeah Landstalker is isometric. I really love that game. It is much harder and larger than Zelda, but it is so rewarding to those who put in the time.

Just take a look at this:

Watching that now makes me wonder how I ever managed to beat this game?

As far as Shinig Force 2, I'd suggest playing the first one to get used to it as it is different. Part 2 was a much prettier, amped up version of part 1.

The only thing the Genesis had a clear advantage in was sports games since it had a faster processor anything else was better on the SNES. Plus the SNES had a much better lineup of JRPGs that is why its the clear winner in my book.

The SNES is my favorite console of all time, so I guess you know my answer!
