Metroid is mostly underground and in caves while Shantae is outdoors, so kind of hard to compare, but Metroid is on the GBA and Shantae on the DS. You'd expect it to look a lot better on the next system.

I agree with you that most 2D GBA games blew most 2D DS games out of the water, but you can't deny that the DS has some nice looking games as well. Shantae is technically superior to Zero Mission for example, even if Zero Mission does look more visually appealing :P

I wish Metroid Dread was a thing

Although, IIRC, the Dr. Kawashima (or whatever) DS ports on the WiiU were only showcased on the gamepad. They'd look half decent on that.

They look bearable on the gamepad, but they look very ugly on the big TV screen:

Yup, this is what I was talking about.

And to think, it'd look even worse if it was just the top screen and not both.

Freaking Shin'en man, their Nanostray games on DS could almost pass for Dreamcast games. (And their Iridion games on GBA for Saturn games, Nano Assault on 3DS for a Vita game, etc)

Yep, and the 60 fps is nice! :) Especially since their games are so fast pace.

Yeah, any dev that prioritizes 60fps in this day and age wins extra respect points from me.
