what?smear campaign? da fack?

are you really gonna play dumb here?  Unless you joined in the last couple days you've seen 1000:1 ratio as far as negative to positive articles about it.

A smear campaign implies that reviewers were wilfully trying to trash The Order without any basis in reality. That's not exactly what happened, the flaws pointed out in the previews of The Order are truly present in the game and for some reviewers that was enough to drop the score down.

An example of smearing a game would be people who say The Last of Us is nothing but an interactive movie. That's simply not true.

I've seen so many people on these very forums attacking the Order and then admitting to not even playing it. I expect the same to happen with every Sony exclusive.

Thanks jlmurph!

If it bloodborne also gets terrible reviews, I too will start thinking there's some kind of conspiracy trying to put down PS4 games.

...Let the Sony Domination continue with the PS4...

this is a number's game... what are the average sales of the armored core games with worldwide release and what percentage are they of the average souls game?

talking about fantabes being dumped, you're talking to someone who counts as 2 of its favourite game series of all time the shining force series and shenmue :/

Was the Souls series always popular since day 1 as they were now in terms of numbers?, because afaik they were very niche back then and still aren't exactly up to COD's level if we want to go strictly by numbers.

Really all this says is Souls has more people playing so let's let Armored Core become super niche by not doing anything for it from now on and let it die off because why bother with it right?.

Well now I know I'm talking to someone who counts as 2 of its favourite game series of all time the shining force series and shenmue, but you seem awfully accepting and defeatist of them though.

I know this conversation is already going to head towards "thems the facts, just gotta deal" but I only said I wished that they would work on another Armored Core game, I love that series a lot and there's not many like it, Souls isn't really my cup of tea so I feel left out that From has decided to go into one franchise (that's actively splitting from multi to exclusive with visible results of hate) instead of going at both and making them stronger.

yeah, you're right... after the last proper shining force was released on Saturn and Camelot goes on to make some shitty ass mario golf games, you tend to have to accept reality as it is :X

there is no point at all comparing Souls to COD numbers, it's not even close :P. though i'm sure if From Software released some fps game that was selling COD numbers, you can bet they would be doing that and no more souls games lol

it's about resources, time and numbers. they had 1 team that was dedicated to souls (demon and dark souls 1), but ds2 was already done by a different team inside From Software, while the main team apparently was focused on Bloodborne.

it is a pitty that you don't enjoy souls, but i really do think it's smart of them to keep pushing the souls series. they are the best at what they are doing and it's very rare nowadays to have a Japanese software house actually being such a hit in the western market.

but who knows, maybe they can expand and bring more talent in that can continue other franchises like Armored Core while remaining focused on the soul series.

I don't see Bloodborne getting hammered like The Order did. Unless its overly cinematic then there's a chance

As a Souls fan I do have my doubts about Bloodborne. Ditching the usefulness of shields and making the combat faster does worry me that it will go more towards twitch based combat instead of the careful tactical dance that I love the series for.

I don't know about reviewers. It's probably linear, not open world, set in its ways apart from the changes to combat. It probably won't look amazing nor run flawlessly. It all depends on whether the game can capture the spirit of the early 2 souls games. Dark souls 2 came close yet was lacking in parts.

The biggest problem it can have is reducing the number of deaths you face. Having to do sections over and over had its function to learn the environments inside out which got you involved in the story told through the world design. With faster combat and less deaths, you won't have the time to soak in the world.

Anyway I'll see tonight who is right about the Order. I can't pass up a good cinematic game, it's been too long. Got it installed and ready to go.

Good article, I'm glad people are starting to realize how much the reviews it received were totally wrong.

What exactly did they get wrong? Anybody that wants a good shooter is going to be disappointed by The Order. I predict a lot of buyer's remorse and Sony knew it was underwhelming.

Anyhow, it sounds like people actually enjoy the gameplay of Bloodborne. So I wouldn't expect the same reception.

I don't think so. BloodBorne is from a dev that not only mastered this genre, but essentially created it. Plus, we already that it's pretty much gonna be 100% gameplay (maybe a few little cutscenes here and there), just like the Souls games, with a pretty astounding sounding multiplayer, and hundreds of hours of replay value. Those things were pretty the biggest gripes with The Order, and BloodBorne already has those bases covered. Like I said about this dev mastering the genre, we already know every other aspect is gonna be solid.

PS4 exclusive so yes it will get some of that, probably less but any one realistic should expect similar smear tactics for any and every PS4 exclusive.

Considering what Eurogamer did back in December, and a professional review, accounted by metacritic giving it a 2/10... it's no denying.

Also, a lot of people admitedly trash-talk the game even saying they haven't played it at all, it was one of the worse of this kind I've always seem. Reviewers calling it a DLC fest when players says it's not, people trying to downplay it's campaing durations saying it would be less than 5 hours when I saw people here who played it saying it's between 8-10... The will to make this game flop was real, unlike most of the harsh critics it got.

And about TLOU, I've also seem a lot of people even here say exactly that, gladly the reviewers didn't wanted to screw this one, because we could have seem a lot of people joking without reason of one of the best games ever made.

Like they are doing now with The Order 1886 (not comparing it with TLOU though).

Yeah I'm not denying there were some forum users who actively trashed it just because it's a PS4 exclusive but I don't believe for one second that there's a conspiracy among video game reviewers to bring the game down.
