A smear campaign implies that reviewers were wilfully trying to trash The Order without any basis in reality. That's not exactly what happened, the flaws pointed out in the previews of The Order are truly present in the game and for some reviewers that was enough to drop the score down.

An example of smearing a game would be people who say The Last of Us is nothing but an interactive movie. That's simply not true.

Considering what Eurogamer did back in December, and a professional review, accounted by metacritic giving it a 2/10... it's no denying.

Also, a lot of people admitedly trash-talk the game even saying they haven't played it at all, it was one of the worse of this kind I've always seem. Reviewers calling it a DLC fest when players says it's not, people trying to downplay it's campaing durations saying it would be less than 5 hours when I saw people here who played it saying it's between 8-10... The will to make this game flop was real, unlike most of the harsh critics it got.

And about TLOU, I've also seem a lot of people even here say exactly that, gladly the reviewers didn't wanted to screw this one, because we could have seem a lot of people joking without reason of one of the best games ever made.

Like they are doing now with The Order 1886 (not comparing it with TLOU though).

Yeah I'm not denying there were some forum users who actively trashed it just because it's a PS4 exclusive but I don't believe for one second that there's a conspiracy among video game reviewers to bring the game down.
