Forums - Gaming - Why I'm starting to hate Rockstar Games and GTA

I've lost interest in the GTA series around the third one. It was getting boring by then and couldn't stand to play anymore of them.

Honestly, i dont like any of their titles at all, but even i can tell the quality on those are top notch, heck, im willing to say they are the best developers in the industry. This is coming from someone who actually hates GTA from the very beginning.

Wow. You are finally somebody who calls out the honest BS of RockStar Games. THANK YOU! Somebody agrees with me!

It didn't top GTA:SA with it's sluggish physics which makes watching all those stunts in YouTube really impressive yet sad because I could never do any of that. It used to be "Arcady" and the controls easier to exploit thus a lot more rewarding for me.

But GTA 5 is overrated in the same sense that Ocarina of Time, FF7, RE... ect are overrated. I'm not saying that it's better or on par with them but they all have been wildly accepted by our collective unconscious that they're superb games or sometimes "perfect" so almost any found criticism will be harshly dismissed. But op is still not found criticism.

I didn't see anything special in GTA V either. I don't think I'll ever enjoy another game in the franchise after San Andreas... but what a hell of a game that one was.

GTA San Andreas on PS2 gave my brother and I some of our fondest gaming memories in the early 2000's... It rivaled our Mario Bro's binges on NES or later on we became obsessed with Resident Evil on PS1 (and every interation after that). Then GTA stole (my) heart... San Andreas (& Vice City) in particular... Fast forward many years, GTA 4 midnight launch... SO AMPED!!! Long story short... Got home, the game just felt stale.. I thought I must be tired.. We played the hell out of it over the next few days... but then we just kinda stopped.. It just didn't have that feel of GTA that was on PS2.. I don't know if I have ever been so let down... Queue Grand Theft Auto 5... Without a doubt one of my favorite games not only last gen, maybe of all time. That game had that rustic, San Andreas feel to it, everything felt smoother, more in depth, I STILL can play it (and I do) and see something new!!! I am almost level 200 online (which is nothing compared to some) and it is some of the most fun I've ever had. Broken promises, crashes, delays, none of it took anything from me because the single player was absolutely amazing (story a little weak, but eh, good acting nonetheless)... I just don't understand the hate.. Maybe Rockstar set the bar too high for themselves with San Andreas and now people are drunk on nostalgia. I went back to San Andreas just a few days ago and let me tell you.. it shows it's age big time. If you still have that game on a pedestal (which I dont blame you if you do) go back and play it again and you might just cringe...

It didn't occurred to me till now that this might be the first thing I've ever seen that disses Rockstar. Not challenging the validity of your arguments just recognizing how little people criticize them. 😕

I see them making a lot of different franchises. They spent a lot of time on them. You can say whatever you want, but I guarantee you that 90% of the companies in this world would've milked GTA untill the udders shrank to the size of a raisin.

I have been amazed for fourteen years that Rockstar has not taken over every genre there are: WRPG, Racing, FPS, TPS, Sports, Action/Adventure, Fighting. Of course sub genres like Zombie and Horror would be easy with their game engine.  I could easily see them doing Simulation, Strategy and even Platforming (see Lego City how it can be done).

Take Two/Rockstar should have been bigger than EA, Activision and Ubisoft if they really had tried. Instead they concentrate all their skills for six - seven years to give us the Ultimate game (that includes all genres).

Yes, and I love them for it. :)

Add me on Xbox: DWTKarma

I bought GTA 5 back in December. It was fun for a little while but got boring very fast. I should not have been surprised by this since that has happened with every GTA game I have played. I will say that GTA 5 did a much better job of character development I was actually interested in Franklin and Michael. Trever was just a pain in the ass.

add me, the more the merrier.

GTA V is my personal favorite GTA since GTA III.
