I don't know. First 1,5 to 2 years of a generation never have blockbuster after blockbuster. I feel this year might really change things, because I do agree that last year was quite shit.

Not too shabby first or second year last generation.

/Thread.

This isn't the 8th Generation. It's Generation 7.5th (Shitload of remakes, lack of new IPs, Nintendo console having 7th Gen Graphics, too many new games releases still being able to be played on 7th Generation consoles, not enough 8th Generation Exclusives).

Only system that hasn't been a letdown is the 3DS (reason why it's the best selling system).

Yes not very much has changed since 2006/2007 and the beginning of generation 7. But according to sales (at least PS4 sales) this is what we, the gamers, want!

Wrong on one thing. This is what CASUALS want. Not GAMERS. 2 very different things...

People were really tired of having the PS3/360 generation go on so long. They wanted to upgrade badly, that's why PS4/X1 are selling so well.

Nintendo had a good window of opportunity to move in and take advantage of this, but as per usual, they missed the bus. Trying to to awkwardly succeed the Wii instead of making a proper next-gen console. I think if Nintendo had been sharper they could have carved themselves out a fairly comfortable no.2 spot this gen as MS has not been particularily sharp.

I heard rumors that stated that CASUALS had moved on to mobile gaming...

I couldn't disagree more.

The first year of this gen provided a lot more good games than the first year of last gen.

I wouldn't say 'sucked', but underperformed for sure. I am still enjoying games of this gen, such as Nobunagas Ambition, but others like Destiny haven't lived up to the expectations, nor has games such as DriveClub or the Master Chief Collection. Sunset Overdrive and Infamous: Second Son have been entertaining; playing Second Son, and watching others play Overdrive. Ori and the Blind Forest has peaked my interest since last years E3, as has BloodBourne and Hellblade.

For me, at least, I say this generation is picking up speed and becoming more enjoyable. It may not have been off to a fast start after theit release, but they are getting better and better.

It has been a bit of a let down so far. Neither the PS4 or X1 have yet been able to provide a great new next-gen IP, and while the quality of Nintendo's games has remained consistent, they've been painfully slow at embracing the potential provided by HD hardware.

this gen has been great for me. I did not care for last gen much at all. I stuck to PC pretty much 2009- PS4 launch.

Only PC games I have played since PS4 launch, CIV 5, CIV:BE and Heart of Iron 3 (see a pattern, only thing I cant do on console right now is Strategy games) I even bought FF 14 for PC and PS4 and could not stand it on the PC after getting used to the game with the DS4.

add me, the more the merrier.

Something must be said about backwards compatibility here! BC is out of style now because of how bloody difficult emulation is for recent gen games. You expect a certain experience with console games. The only way to make that experience with BC absolutely perfect would be to include the old hardware alongside the new, which isn't very cost effective nowadays. If you guys remember, PS2 had PS1 hardware inside as well, which made perfect BC possible. Everyone knew why the Wii was BC with GameCube games (it was simply an overclocked GC and you know it!).

Could you imagine including PS1, 2 AND 3 hardware in the PS4 for a perfect BC video gaming experience? And for the alternative to work (emulation), you would need a system that's extremely powerful. Even godly rigs have issues with PS3 and XB360 emulation. Sure, those machines can run the games, but the experience is not smooth and is prone to failure. You can't have older games crashing and performing below the standard on consoles when people are well aware of the game performing a certain way on the older systems.

Of course it's true that companies are capitalizing on this by doing HD remasters and re-releases, but I'm seriously not complaining about HD remasters because they introduce aging series to newcomers and make those older games even more playable for us older gamers.

It's just not cost effective these days.
