i think it still can. PS4 shipped 15.4 million last year. thats higher than the PS3's peak year. this year it will likely have a price cut and has some big games like uncharted hitting. remember, uncharted, a new GTA, gran turismo, god of war still havent hit this console.

fixed it XD.

and yeah i share bananaking thoughts on this.

Also its defenetly not selling as much this weeks so i can see why vivster wanted a "sanity check", but lets wait for the Order and Bloodborne to come out and lets see how much of an impact they make on sales.

Actually I only did this because it seemed topical after everyone complained about the recent VGC numbers being "abysmal". My own opinion about the PS4's sales hasn't changed because of last month's numbers.

Just checking if these numbers changed the mind of some other people on here. There should be enough people voting to have a fairly accurate snapshot of the current state of affairs.

I think it will reach it or it will get close!

I think the most important thing to 100m is how long Sony is willing to sell the console. This gen both consoles don't have any advantage to pc beside the api but DirectX 12 is changing this to a good extend so let's see how it will work this gen.
I don't care because beside of emulation I don't care about pc (well, I do my work with it, though) but let's see how long it can keep going.

100m

So far sales were never high enough to put it on a path to 100 million. It would take a big YOY increase in 2015 for this path to open, but so far it's down 20% even with japan and stock.

Actually I don't think we have an accurate path for 100m to determine if PS4 is on or off it. Wii was extremely frontloaded and PS2 sold a lot of its units in its later days while having virtually no competition.

Though it definitely is quite unusual for a home console to even reach that number seeing how in 7 gens only  3 consoles managed it with 2 of them barely.

there will be an impact, but they are both new IP's. the PS4 is still at a 400$ price point, it hasnt got one price cut after 15 months on the market. wii released at 250$, PS2 at 300$. this is at 400$. and while it didnt effect the PS4 much last year, its certainly gonna have its effect this year, but thats when the price cut comes in. if a slim released this year with a 299$ price tag, that can be huge.

110m max.

Won bet with t3mporary_126 - I correctly predicted that the Wii U's LTD at the end of 2014 would be closer to 9 million than 10 million. http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/post.php?id=6673287

I think I predicted 90+ million and I stick by that. Whether it gets to 100m, I think, will depend on how long this generation is.

Didn't expect something like that from you. You're usually quite thoughtful.

Nothing in this gen changed in the advantages and disadvantages of consoles vs PCs. It's still the same factors that make people decide for one thing or the other. DX12 will change absolutely nothing. It will do nothing for the vast majority of PC gamers, let alone sway console owners to a PC.

I'm seeing mobile as the much more prominent competitor to consoles when stealing marketshare is concerned.

Outselling every other console for most of the 1st year is the wrong path?

OT: Yeah, it will more than likely go over 100m. I do wonder if it will take as long as the Wii (I think that was 6 years)

Bet with bluedawgs: I say Switch will outsell PS4 in 2018, he says PS4 will outsell Switch. He's now permabanned, but the bet will remain in my sig.
