Forums - Sales - Wii vs PS4

Comparison launch aligned (more or less, PS4 has a two week advantage)

PS4 fought bravely to keep the lead after its first full year (was beaten because of christmas week though).

I believe second and third full years will be no contest, Wii 2008/2009 sales are crazy.

This might become interesting again in 4-5 years.

In the battle between Wii and PS4 i'm personally going to follow shipment numbers only. Wii is definitely in the lead now and hade higher sell through of stock, but VG numbers have been off by to much lately and by the time there are adjustments we just don't really know from wich weeks the sales really came from.

Not to mention China wich will be absolutely impossible to track.

It's interesting to note that even now PS4 is still firmly in the lead in the west, Wii's current lead solely comes from Japan. The difference there is a whopping 5.1 million for Wii against 1.1 million for PS4.

PS4's only chance is long term, if this gen lasts as long as last and we get a boost in the middle like Move/Kinect provided. That's unlikely though.

It was never gonna compete with Wii's 20m+ years.

I'd be surprised if Morpheus gave it a boost at all...

Kinect was easy to predict, was just an extension of Wii. Morpheus (which will have competiors at the same time not just in Microsoft) is a whole other kettle of fish. Likely more expensive as well.

If a Gamepad is rumoured to cost $150~ how much do you think VR is going to be? Not only that but it isn't as casual friendly and is hindered like Kinect was.

Part of me hopes the PS4 does eventually beat it, because that means the cosole base is not shrinking, but expanding.  Good for everyone.

Why do people even compare the wii to the ps4, the wii was totally penetraded by casuals and launched at 250$ while the ps4 launched at 400$.

Wii at that time could have sold for more money and still have those numbers.

Doubt it, it was a party device for the casuals not an essential gadget like a smartphone
