I read a thread on neogaf talking about inflation and how $60 in 1992 =/= $60 in 2015 that made me wonder... it's really fair to AAA games be locked at $60 price point? i mean, i don't want games to be more expensive, don't get me wrong but..looking from the devs perspective:

-AAA Games are becoming way more expensive:
-Software price drops really fast these days(6 month old games for less than half of the price)
-It's not like devs are not charging more than $60 already(see: OP).

If you think about two of the biggest reasons why Video game market crashed back in the 80's were #1 huge amount of shovelwere/bad games and #2 lower price point for softwares.

These two things are happening right now! We have a lot of shovelwares(indies AND AAA) and the Software price point fall too fast.

Of course, back then devs didn't have DLC,microtransactions,DRM,etc... but still....

Don't be fooled by such slanted analysis. yes, $60 back then is around $100+ now, but the thing such analysis fails to mention is that back then the average AAA game didn't go on to sell 5M copies.

The market is much bigger now. That aside, there are also tons of ways devs can make money from games these days than what were possible back then. Ways that don't involve gouging their user base. Think about it, how many people can afford to spend $120-$180 on a game? If asked to choose, do you really think publishers will choose to sell 1M copies of a game at $150 or sell 5-10M copies of the same game at $60? cause that is what it means. Raising the cost simply means you reduce the demand. Economics 101.

and as for this game, well.... they can keep their really good content that gamers would love to pay for to themselves. Hell maybe they should buy it themselves. When it's all said and done, this game will bomb, and they should ask themselves what would have happened if they just gave everything at $60. I think publishers are beyond stupid these days.

That and everything in one package for a single price sounds a lot better consumer wise than say $60+45/60, games that are complete and launch DLC much later (actually created after the game's release) that ask for at least $20 seems fine but that doesn't happen very often with the rise of pre-ordering and season passes mostly going for higher prices.

Even though we get games like Evolve that will have people claiming "they are only side rgades, they don't matter at all to the game/story", it's still gouging to ask for another $60-135 and keep it outside of the core game, having it all in one complete package for $60 means more sales (especially if the game isn't straight up bad, we aren't to blame for that) and makes better sense than hgiher prices with few sales, it's why I don't get artists who take commissions but charge you $200 right off the bat or start bids starting points as high as $150, you're going to get less people interested in your art let alone your business and you'll only sell to a few rather than selling to more, getting more productive and making more money in general.

It took me a while to understand what everyone was complaining about with the DLC (I was just stuck on the fact that the core game sucked ass and it wasn't worth $60 ) but now I get it.

This one trick pony; empty husk of a game shouldn't be charging extra for anything. And if we don't speak out against it, video games will become like mobile games overrun with micro transactions.

Trouble is we had Ubisoft take the bigger move by having a "micro" trans of their own by charging up to $100 in game, that's probably the boldest thing I've ever seen a company do, I know Evolve is a bigger culprit for the game being a husk in general but ubisoft are one of the big players that can and will set trends, Activision and EA have intro'd trends that others have followed like Season passes and "start kits" (I'm on the fence about how Skylanders work though), I'm afraid of what we'll see in the enxt 5 years though, I could probably see non micro trans being the norm somehow if we don't stand up to this.

Disgusting.

Every year the video game industry sinks lower and lower. Microtransactions, day 1 DLC, games releasing borderline unplayable and needing extensive patching just to work properly...

Back in 2013, gamers gave me hope when they rose against the Xbox One's DRM policies, but nowadays it seems we're fine with being bled dry.

Not everything is bad now, look at games like bloodborne it wont have any of this stuff and thats one of the best looking AAA titles coming up

We also got Witcher 3 with them giving out free DLC and that's another best looking AAA title as well.

The Witcher 3 won't review as high either mark my words. They want to speak out against milking people for DLC... oh they are gonna pay.  Their only hope is to play the Microsoft advertising deal card. That might help them out a bit.

People will buy it, companies will make money and cycle will continue, they have zero reason to stop. Would they stop coz people complain? No, they're a business not your best mate, they don't care about peoples "feelings" towards the practice and that's why they can get away with $136+ of DLC.

They do care about your feelings. Except those feelings are conveyed through the wallet and when people buy the game/DLC in droves, it shows you're loving it.

Perhaps that's just a different way of putting it though.

The Last of Us has weapons behind a paywall and you people complain about cosmetics.

No, it doesn't. I use those weapons and I didn't pay anything for them. Anyone can.

It'l review decently towards PC centric places I;d imagine since the franchise started there, it's not like Sony has had something exclusive to them and PC with MS msising out in the past just like how the 2nd Witcher was only on PC/360 and it still reviewed well, Witcher doesn't exactly have DLC practices on the elvels of EA, Ubisoft, Activision and the guys behind Evolve, nowhere near world shattering.

I can't see Bloodborne being the only AAA game to score decent reviews this year though, which is why I originally mentioned a game non exclusive to Sony to who I replied to because I felt there's more than just one AAA exclusive this eyar that's to score well.

That's ridiculous. Not much more to say.

i've got nothing against dlc as long as the original game is worth the asking price. is there enough content in the original game to be worth $60? that's a question i don't see anyone asking/answering..

well no evolve for me ;) thanks THQ you just save me sixty dollars.
