Forums - Sales Discussion - January 2015 NPD Thread! Hardware estimates up!

PS4 is horrible, but somewhat expected.
XBO is up at least, that's good news (imagine if it had been down!) And good for the Wii U!

No you are not...ps4 is near 20 million and is still 399, of course it was down, compared to other consoles that got privce cuts way before..YOIu dont have a clue what you are talking about. PS4 sold way faster then consoels before not named wi, of course it hoit satiuration faster.

He wants to spread doom for PS4 even if it is already at 20M, which is a pretty good number. People claiming it won't get at 100M at this pace are being beyond ridiculous too. PS4 getting behind PS2 was expected too, it had to happen eventually unless PS4 would do 160M+ what isn't going to happen since it actually has competition.

His view of the NPD was way more positive in December and November, while X1 was on top.

We can't take a single month as a trend. We have the current total numbers. That's a trend, that's a result that came with more than a year of sales. Taking a single month, in a single country as a more respectable source of market health instead of 1 year of global data is simply insane.

A tiny timeframe isn't a good source of information. We could compare the MGS4 launch month on PS3 with the same month for PS4 (supposing we had a month with no big game) and PS4 would look bad. The aligned month to month comparison still suffers with the fact that PS3 and 360 had price cuts while PS4 hadn't. More than that, X1 got a 150 bucks price cut and stole market share from PS4 in the US.

Exactly, anyone taking one month as a trend is a fool.

X1 is up 10 K and it is 150 cheaper, that's terrible.

Your posts in this thread are horrid.....These consoles sold way more then there predecessors, thus reached market saturation faster, of course ps4 would be down it is still 399 and is near 20 million sold......By this time ps3 had price cuts and so did 360, thus up more. All yuo doom mongers dont have a clue, ps4 would be way up had it seen a price drop. So many misinformed posters on this sit.e

You want to spread doom because your precious x1 is struggling....PS4 will outsell ps3 easy.

I also get a kick out of how US = world mentality. Other countries are growing for the console market, PS4 is selling way more in Middle east, europe. consoels are far from doomed, at least ps4 isnt.

Cut the aggressive attitude.

The "it is up" comment was referring to the WiiU, nothing about the X1.  Apology accepted.

My point stands, and I know you were talking wii-u, I was talking x1.

PS4 down 30% yoy and One up around 10%, I think. I think Sony might actually have to do something to hold off MS in the US, yet people are still tagging this market as an easy win for the PS4.

The PS4 has sold less than the Wii in each of the last 3 months when comparing months gen on gen.

Combined, it is 2.60m v 2.06m.

Wii hadnt even entered its high selling phase by this point either.

Hang on a minute. You can't choose and twist trends to suit your argumnent. I've seen you use several different trends to paint the picture you want and some of them clash.

First you state that the PS4 is down yoy and thats bad. It's going to be shorter gen etc. Now you are saying that the Wii outsold it at the same point in it's life cycle and it hadnt entered if "high selling phase".

So if we use the Wii trend, the PS4 has to yet go through its "high selling phase" and therefore clashes with your other point.

Agreed! But they still have the pricecut card to play. I can see them dropping the pricecut bomb at E3 and see the momentum carry them into holidays where it will have to battle Lara and Halo. Can't see MS being able to drop the price by much and will be relying on Halo next holiday and it could do the job for them.

If they continue to beat the XBO until the holiday period, then there is no point dropping the price until the holiday period. It will then give them some ammo to beat or keep close to XBO in the xmas period.

Sony dont need to panic right now, if they sell at about the same pace/gap the gap to the XBO would be around 1.1m. Wait till MS start looking towards the Xmas period with their crazy deals and then drop the price... BAM!

I have a feeling that the PS4 will see a price reduction in the US and UK sometime in Q4, but if they're going to slash it permanently they need to do it globally. We'll see what E3 brings!

Kind of fnny ORAS is separated. It literally should be in the top 10! XY had this problem (well most of the franchise lol)

Well this was a horrible month for hardware huh?

I guess slight positive of WiiU and Vita not being the rock-bottom terrible that I was expecting from them.

Good for Dying Light though!
