Forums - Nintendo - Iwata Cites Cheaper Software/More Remakes For 3DS, No Price Cuts.

Seems we've hit that point in the life of an entertainment sector where ideas are not so fresh or frequent and we start seeing a large number of remakes. Movies go through periods of it, TV does it. It's all part of the cycle.

Still it's time for everyone to get off their high horse about other console's remakes and accept them as a reality of an industry that gets to a certain stage of development.

Some remakes are good, some are not. Nintendo's remakes are a step up compared to the rest. Metroid: Zero Mission is the best remake ever made.

If they did their remakes with additional content like what Sega did with Skies of Arcadia to Skies of Arcadia Legends I would be satisfied.

Spring/Summer 2016 gives New 3DS 1.5 years on the market before a successor, which is a completely reasonable amount of time.

DSi XL was the last DS revision and that was basically a year before the 3DS launched. And Nintendo promised exclusive games for the DSi too, lol, that went nowhere.

It's not like the New 3DS ceases to exist the moment the new handheld comes out anyway, Nintendo needs the New 3DS as the 3DS will have to be stocked through 2018 most likely.

5+ years for the 3DS as the primary Nintendo handheld is more than enough too especially considering its sales/year rate was lower than the DS or even Game Boy Advance.

DS got 6 years but it deserved the 6 years because it sold 150 million, not the 70-75 million the 3DS is on pace for, and even there Nintendo wanted to launch 3DS in holiday 2010 but just didn't have enough software ready to go.

Well DSi did get a whole bunch of exclusives, they were just digital. But ya, I don't expect New 3DS to get too many exclusive titles, perhaps a half dozen or so with most of them being Wii ports. I could see alot of games getting New 3DS exclusive content tho.

Tbone, be cool. This thread feels dangerous for you.

Maybe I've been lurking in the wrong threads, but I don't know where this idea that Nintendo fans hate remakes has come from. I was under the impression that the brunt of the criticisms against MCC came from it not functioning properly at launch, and that the circumstances around the "definitive editions" -- releasing just a year after the past-gen versions, sometimes after the publishers had specifically said they weren't looking into current-gen ports -- were the cause of derisive remarks.

I fail to see how Iwata's statement here makes Nintendo fans appear any more hypocritical than they already did, if indeed they did. Nintendo fans love remakes. They've bought Ocarina of Time and Star Fox 64 and Donkey Kong Country Returns and Wind Waker and Ruby/Sapphire and soon they'll buy Majora's Mask and Xenoblade. Iwata's comments change nothing.

go into the threads about TLoU remastered, tomb raider, DMC, metro redux, and whatever other last gen ports hit ps4xbox in the jan to sept 2014 time frame.  GTA V and halo MCC collection probably caught a bit of flak too but not as much.

I was hoping Nintendo would have a new handheld ready for this holiday. New 3DS isn't going to stop the YOY drop big N.

Sigs are dumb. And so are you!

I hope they revamp the 3DS eshop. It needs it bad. If it makes it more presentable, then spamming the eshop with mobile games wouldn't be so bad. I liked some of the games that have made it so far.

Wait till Nintendo surprises us all and releases a remake of final fantasy 5 and 6 for the N3DS and to make us shit ourselves Nintendo will remake mario RPG legend of the seven stars with DLC sidequests for all 3 games. :)

Omg if they remade Mario RPG on the new 3DS....now I have to change my pants.

I can't imagine them releasing a new handheld so soon. Itd piss a lot of fans off that bought the new 3DS if they had to go out and buy another brand new handheld a year or less later. I also think it would be stupid to focus on cheap mobile games and remakes on your most successful console-_-

Nintendo DS released 1.5 years after Gameboy Advance SP, Nintendo 3DS released about 2 years after DSi so for Nintendo to release a new handheld in mid 2016 isn't out of the question.

Yeah but those were basically reskins of the same system. The new 3DS is an actual upgrade that can play games the old one can't.

DSi was not a reskin, it added DSiWare which featured dozens of games not available on previous DS models, it only got 2 years before being replaced. Considering DS was selling at such a faster rate and had just a little over 6 year lifespan with DSi being 2 years, it's not unlikely 3DS has a little over 5 year cycle with New 3DS being about 1.5 years.
