Forums - Gaming - Retro Studios - could it save the Wii U?

A lot of people complain about Microsoft's handling of Rare (rightfully), but Nintendo is handling Retro Studios just as bad. These guys have the ability to become the next Rare if Nintendo let them. Nintendo 64 had a ton of Nintendo first party droughts, almost as bad as the Wii U. However, the N64 had a secret weapon: Rare. Anytime I mention the N64, everyone always brings up Goldeneye. Goldeneye saved the N64. The Wii U does not have this luxury. Or could it?

http://www.unseen64.net/tag/retro-studios/ Here are some of Retro's cancelled games

They were working on a WRPG game called Raven Blade. That would be cool to see Nintendo get a killer WRPG exclusive game. Also, Retro could make a kick ass FPS if they wanted to (Prime is proof of that). Could you imagine an epic first person shooter from Retro Studios? Wow. However, Nintendo instead has them working on Donkey Kong Country. Thankfully Tropical Freeze flopped.

Retro Studios could give Nintendo a lot more appeal (let's face it, WRPGs and FPS are the most popular genres these days, not 2D platformers).

What do you guys think? Should Nintendo let Retro unchained and try to become the Rare for the Wii U?

Nah. I think most of the team behind Prime is gone now. Raven Blade sounds cool and would be interested in that. But DKCR sold tons of copies on wii and actually outsold Corruption. So Nintendo went with what sells.

We don't need more Donkey Kong games. 'Nuff said.

With how long it takes them to make even just one game I doubt it'd make much of a difference, though I would like to see them tackle a new IP.

Nintendo buying Take-Two and releasing GTA 6 exclusively on the Wii U as a 1st party game couldn't save it.

No doubt Retro is top tier for nintendo, while it's easy to say they should be let loose to do more, we don't know if they actually can live up to the image that has been placed on them in creating AAA quality outside of Donkey kong and Metroid.
I believe they can, so i say yes, lets just see what all they can do for Nintendo.

Yes, we do. I need Diddy Kong Racing Returns. I need a 3D Donkey Kong that's not a collect-a-thon. What we don't need is another 2D Donkey Kong. Not until those games are out.

Lol, that's my bad then.

First: there is no need to save the Wii U as it isn't in trouble. Its doing fine but could do better.

Second: Retro isn't handicapped by Nintendo. It's Nintendo who giving them everything they need - which includes the time to polish their games.

Third: Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze didn't flop. It did well given the install base at launch.

Why do people keeping on thinking Nintendo made them work on Donkey Kong? They developed TF cause they wanted to and Nintendo defended their decision to do so instead of Metroid or any other game...
