Forums - Gaming - Is Sega finished with console retail? (GI.biz article)

Wtf happened to them, once were so great then just a decade of brain farts and they should just die.

So many great franchises that deserve new games being made.

Totally agree! I'll really miss Sega if they stop developing console games and not only because of nostalgic memories of how good they were in the past. Alone on PS3 I own (and love) 16 games published by Sega: Yakuza 3+4, Valkyria Chronicles, Resonance of Fate, Bayonetta, Vanquish, Alien: Isolation, Sonic Generations, Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 1+2, Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed, Sega Rally, Vitua Fighter 5, Virtua Tennis 4, The House of the Dead: Overkill and Catherine (included this one since Atlus is now owned by Sega).

They just need to cut off all the mediocre and bad games (the brain farts).

Alien Isolation's sales suffered because of Colonial Marines. Same thing with Sonic and his inconsistency. Sega makes bad decisions, always have.

if they had stuck with the dreamcast it would have done better than the original xbox or the gamecube. so yes, i agree with the sentiment. sonic BOOM anyone? or sonic 06? or... the secret rings or whatever it was called?

it's not that simple, Sega didn't volunarily really give on the Dreamcast- they didn't have much of a choice, it was getting killed once the Playstation 2 was released and they had invested so much $$$ into Shenmue and the system itself and were bleeding cash. trust me, I doubt it would have had continued great success. not a bad system but the first year went well for them and then things went terribly, again, because Sega did not have the capital to continue

This is happening to Sega because they either constantly make bad games, or the games they actually put out that are quite good are sold to the smallest market (Bayonetta Wii U for instance). Its always been a recipe for disaster. Nintendo don't have that problem just yet because whilst they sell console games to a small number of people, they still are actually making very good games. When was the last time Sega bought a game out that genuinely blew the whole gaming world away, Shenmue?

Yes, of course.  But my point is, is that the games that do come out with their name on, and ones that they seemingly put any effort in to, get the least exposure because of the platform they appear on.  Bayonetta was probably Segas best effort in terms of quality in the past 10 years, and they did it for the smallest userbase.  I can't remember like I said anything since Shenmue which was considered decent.  Maybe the Yakuza games but I've never played them yet (but will try them thanks to PSPlus in Feb!)

Bad decisions like betting everything on two franchises and having zero quality control for either of them? That's our Sega!

as long as total war stays its okay for me... but i hope they make a new sega allstars racers, its not realy AAA and nobody would care if its ust digital.

His point stands. The property of Bayonetta had potential and it was mishandled. The joke is sorely on Sega. Nintendo just picked up a bargain.

Nintedo "doom and gloom" is a purely a fan construct that intends to divert attention from reality and attribute any short of negative critisism to negative preconception against nintendo. There are no Sega fans as much as individual Sega IP fans.

I only care about one thing: is Atlus affected by this? Sega can go to the devil, but Atlus-games only on mobile would be a big loss.
