you cut out the part of my post that clarifies what i'm talking about specifically

"final fantasy is a decades old multimillion copies selling franchise whereas xenoblade was a niche game that still has not sold a million copies"

but eh whatever if you actually think that xenoblade as a franchise is a rival to the behemoth that is final fantasy do your thing bro

You're clinging to those sales. Nobody in their right mind is trying to say that Xenoblade competes with Final Fantasy in terms of monetary value. Absolutely no one. What everyone in this thread is talking about is the quality of the game and the features that they can share to ultimately make them better.

You can't play sales. You play games. Remember that.

and you can't play final fantasy 15 at this point either, so as i stated... how can we determine which features it lacks or does not lack in comparison to xenoblade?

it seems to me like most people who wish to downplay final fantasy are simply resorting to saying that they didn't like the last game so all future games will suck and must take features from xenoblade

my point is that this is silly since it has been demonstrated since the beginning that the design philososphy of ff 15 is different to the previous game and therefore for all we know it may even incorporate requested features better than xenoblade... we just do not know

This isn't about Final Fantasy 15 lacking somehow. I thought this thread was just referring to how Final Fantasy's previous iterations and the original XC can learn from each other moving forward with their new installments. Nobody even knows how these 2 games are going to be when they're released.

And no, your point was not that FFXV is different than past installments so it could be better than Xenoblade; you were trying to compare the sales numbers of a storied franchise to a relatively new IP that was launched at the end of the Wii's lifecycle, as if sales somehow justify their existence or their ability to be good as a game. Games aren't only good if they sell well. There are plenty of games out there that should sell much more, but don't. So please do not try to use numbers like that to knock Xenoblade down, as if that makes it a worse game.

"this thread was just referring to how Final Fantasy's previous iterations and the original XC can learn from each other moving forward with their new installments"

my point is that many of the comments i've seen are attempts to downplay final fantasy based on how final fantasy 13 was

that is not reasonable since ff15 has a demonstrably different design philosophy and therefore assumptions cannot be based on ff13

"And no, your point was not that FFXV is different than past installments so it could be better than Xenoblade; you were trying to compare the sales numbers of a storied franchise to a relatively new IP"

i think if you look back at my post you'll see that i actually did both

" since no one has actually experienced final fantasy 15 outside of a few trailers there is no way to know conclusively what the entire list of features it has entails "

oh and this is interesting "a relatively new IP that was launched at the end of the Wii's lifecycle, as if sales somehow justify their existence or their ability to be good as a game. Games aren't only good if they sell well. There are plenty of games out there that should sell much more, but don't."

interesting to see this argument from nintendo fans but yes i do agree absolutely

Even if you count them, they're still extension of FFXIII. Same characters, same gameplay, same items, etc.

And sure, FFXIV was released twice but, the second time it was released, it became one of the best MMO out there.

And Xenoblade Chronicles became the best jrpg of last gen the first time.

Says who?

Everyone, it's among the highest rated jrpgs ever. Who says XIV is one of the best MMOs?

Well both are great series' and both could teach the other series a few things. Xenoblade could teach FF about the voice acting, the sense of scale, some story pointers and combat tips, whilst FF could teach Xenoblade how to have a useful in-game currency, better towns/NPC's and also a coherent feel to the game.

Saying "one should have this" or "one should have that" is fine, but both games can improve and be even more awesome than they already are if they do this.

Yeah that's what it says on my avatar! Last I checked anyway...

Shall do if you'd like.

It may prove too late to make a difference but I'd really like to get more sentiments related to that view point so please do.

Yep, the combat is nothing like XII

Yes, but we aren't talking about the combat if you read the other comment I was responding to. And no, the combat is absolutely nothing like XII.

Also Xenoblade's combat is just as close to those games as it is XII's.

Dat contradiction ...

there is no rivalry between final fantasy and xenoblade

You know, I would point you toward a place where the lead designer of FFXV specifically said it was a competition between the two, but what good would that do right? You ignored it when Samus posted it, what would be different?

He was saying that if Xenoblade's combat was close to XII's, it was also close to those other two.
