Forums - Gaming - FFXV is one giant, connected Landmass. Important disconcerting info

Airships were planned in Nomura's original vision for the game. The ability to play as other members of the party was also in Nomura's original vision. I feel like Tabata is changing too much from how it was meant to be. Definitely worrisome.

That's what happens when you spend +6 years on game.

Ideas change and eventually the original vison of the game gets lost and then they have a hot mess that they have to finish and push out.

FFS!  There were frickin airships dropping off enemies in real time in the FFXV demonstration.  There can be several fully rendered monsters on the screen at once along with monsters much bigger than an airship. How the hell is this a huge technical challenge for them!?

I think they're honestly trying to find the most gentle and polite way as possible to tell us eventually that there isn't a fully controllable airship in FFXV.

They couldn't even meet the 'challenge' of leaving character switching in the game, which now without it makes combos seem less strategic and more random based on whomever is closest to you.

Ever heard of draw distance? The game is focused on graphics. So unless you want to see huge pop ins, a horizon that is 50m away or a massive graphical downgrade as soon as they board the ship I wouldn't count on it. Welcome to Gen 8 where gameplay is still bound by hardware.

What they might do is make an airship service in hub towns. Essentially a glorified warp point between towns.

The only thing that would impress me in a new main-line FF game, is if they made one that dropped the anime type garbage, and actually went back to the series ROOTS of being, you know.....a FANTASY series.

Something more along the lines of FFIV, would be my dream (including actually bringing back 5 person parties).

I guess I can dream, right?

It's probably going to be an insta-port feature, much like FFX or XII.

No, it seems about the size of a certain game that was the greatest jrpg of last gen (which you traveled through on foot).

if I recall that certain game you are talking about wasn't open world. That's a very very big difference. The world map in that game was nothing but a picture. An area map that you were never really in. Walk straight, road forks, treasure chest on one dead end, back track, GI the other way, profit.

Unless of course we are not talking about FF13

Trust me, I wasn't talking about XIII.... Ever. We just need to let that series slip into obscurity, you know, the game no one ever brings up. Like the Phantom Menace was to Star Wars.

The world isn't even big enough to warrant an airship from what we've seen. Not surprised they aren't in it.

what are you basing this on?

Scroll down a little from the post you qouted and there it is.

The sad reality of what has happened to Square-Enix. Take out controllable parties, gameplay, world size and customization because their hair needs 40,000 polygons. /sarcasm but you get the point.

I can understand if there's no airships in the game since it's just a continent or a large body of land. They could add in areas later on as part of DLC. Airships aren't really a big deal for me. I would like many different forms of traveling on the ground though. I like exploring the worlds.

FF was always about graphics. Since the SNES era. There was no game where they didn't push for the highest possible graphics at the time.

The difference now is that graphics are complex and expensive. So they have to leave out other things. Things that are technically possible but for which they have no capacities for.

Oh SE, what we want is multiple continent and ocean with north pole and south pole. I prefer they release the games on 2020 rather then make another XV-2 and XV-3.
