Forums - Gaming - Am I the only one who doesn't care about achievements/trophies?

How do achievements influence gameplay for you?

They're a major selling point for me! 239 49.90%

I'll try to get lots of ... 56 11.69%

They're mostly good for ... 54 11.27%

I just ignore them for the most part. 89 18.58%

I wish games didn't have them. 40 8.35%

Total:478

I like the sound they make when you get one... other than that, they're irrelevant to me.

Don't care about this thing, it's just a show up & make you become famous. This is not a new thing by the way. I think Atari 2600 days(or NES days) was 1st by sending your scores with mail to the creators, correct me if i'm wrong.

Heck, even Arcade.

I couldn't imagine a game without them anymore. It adds so much imo.

Trophies are a nice idea but they are mostly handled like crap.

So many trophies are obtained from incredibly tedious or repetitive things. Im not saying you should be able to platinum a trophy on 1 playthrough, but getting most of them from 1 playthrough is something I like.

Really couldn't care less about them. Tbh, I don't even understand what I did half the time I get them.

Money can't buy happiness. Just video games, which make me happy.

Nope, I'm also of your opinion. I just never got what made trophies so special. Maybe it's the challenge you have to overcome in order to gain it, maybe it's fun hunting them down... I really don't know.

Aside from the very few trophies I got on PS3 'on accident' I never once actively tried to collect all of them for any game, it just never sparked my interest.

I actively dislike them.

Hm... Very interesting responses! And according to the poll, I don't seem to be in the minority.

In this poll, maybe... but the title of the thread is naturally going to pull in more people who already side with your view. Whenever anyone says "Am I the only one..." there is a natural 'no, me too' response, while those who disagree are more likely to skip the thread... it's like a leading question.

A lot of people don't like them.

I can understand people not caring for them, but I can't understand people not liking them. What's there not to like?

Trophies/achievements are nothing more than a progress/milestone/skill tracker. No one forces you to get them, none of a games features are hidden behind them... so I don't see what the problem is. They just track most of what gamers would have done on their own anyways. How often do people play games trying to onle make head shots? or trying to go on a killing spree in a multiplayer match without dying? Or trying to collect as many blast shards as possible to level up your character? or trying to beat that ridiculously powerful optional boss? Or trying to reach the farthest zone possible in wipeout HD, So there is a system that just universally tracks "achievements" like that and gives you "trophies" for them.

A system that makes it easy to know if that friend of yours finished all the challenge levels in vanquish without you having to ask them. As I said, don't get whats not to like.

Indifferent to them. I rarely bother, but if really enjoy a game can be a little bonus. Be nice if tangible benefits were attached to them.
