Forums - Nintendo - Do you feel Shokio is on something with Splatoon?

The thing I love the most about Splatoon (aside from it looking fucking awesome) is it shows their is a future once Miyamoto is gone, once the old gaurd is gone.
This is a game by a first time director and the other guy its just his 2nd game directing (the first was some Brain Age game on Wii).
If Nintendo have more young devs like this coming up in the next few years maybe I can be excited for them as a company again.

Amen. It's an encouraging sign for Nintendo's future.

the only thing this game can compete with is the plants v zombies gw crowd. And the question is,..... is that even a thing?

That being said, if they confirm in game chat, this game is day one for me. They had me at "squid jumping". Pretty sure i made up that term, but i think you know what it means if your in this thread.

All I know is, Splatoon is the most interesting thing Nintendo has done since Wii Sports nearly a decade ago.

It looks like something 90's Sega would do honestly

I can almost guarantee more people are interested in Zelda U than in Splatoon. It's something new, and a good direction for Nintendo to go. That said, I like what the new talent is bringing, but the most interesting? Not really. And if we consider Monolith Soft and Xenoblade Nintendo (because they are owned by Nintendo) it isn't even the most interesting new thing.

Never mind this comment, it got WAY off point, lol.

I wouldn't call any returning IP interesting really. Yes, Zelda U will apparently change the direction of the series a bit but it still has link, and the normal Zelda feeling. I would say that it will be a great game most likely but interesting? Nah.

I never played Xenoblade but plan to get X. With that said, it looks to be similar to other JRPG's out there. Again, I could be wrong. If it is similar though, it can be the best one ever made but it still isn't interesting per say.

What other game features a 4V4 shooter where the goal is to paint the most area of a map while controlling squid like creatures holding weapons?  It seems like an original concept to me. I find original to be interesting.

What you find interesting might be different from me which is fine though

Splatoon looks better and better the more they show of it. The art direction is cool it reminds me of jet grind radio.

For you maybe, but you said this is the most interesting thing Nintendo has done is 10 years. I'm just saying the majority of people would disagree with you on that point and find other games (like LoZ and XCX) more interesting.

I would love to be wrong though. I would love for this to release, and it sell completely out to where it pushes systems and becomes a title I wind up getting week 3 because it was just impossible to find the first two weeks (like Fire Emblem Awakening and Pokemon X and Y). I just don't think the general interest level for this game is nearly as high as it is for Xenoblade X or LoZ.
