I don't think that Japanese people actually care that much about Halo or Gears so the development costs for Halo 5 and Gears of War on the wiiU will not justify the sales imo cause you can't just port it from x1 and expect it to work. You have to optimize it and downgrade it a lot and you have to make sure that it fits within that 28gb guaranteed space restriction as well as you have to make sure it works with Nintendo's online and even Microsoft's online or else there won't be too many people to play with as well as many other things

So no, I don't think its a good idea for Microsoft

We assume they don't care because people don't buy the hardware. If people already owned the hardware (Wii U), then they may give those game a try!

Not going to happen. Plus the games you listed are developed with the XBO in mind. They'd have to scale back to work on the Wii U.

Scale back in graphics? Yea, but barely noticable to most gamers (including myself). This isn't the day and age where graphics are increasingly "mindblowing" from generation to generation. The Wii U is a LOT closer to the xboxone than the N64 was to the gamecube and especially compared to the gamecube/wii upgrade.

Wouldn't they just buy a Xbox if they were interested in those games anyways? Also Minecraft is already on Playstation and PC in Japan.

Who buys a system just for a couple/few games? That's what I'm saying. People may buy these games if they came out on systems that actually had enough games to justify people buying. And minecraft on Wii U would hurt ps sales even more.

In theory I agree, but MS are not in a pickle and don't need to make the extra income (else there is a lot of things they could do).

Whay if Region locking was no longer a thing for WiiU?

That and nothing but Nintendo sells on WiiU in Japan anyway, look at Bayo 2, they rejected it. It's not like Halo would sell loads there.

Yeah, Japanese people generally don't care about halo and gears. They don't care about shooters in general even if they're on Sony systems. If they did have an "Alliance" the way they could level the playing field would be to throw a crap ton of Microsoft's money at Japanese publishers to pry their games from Sony consoles and release them for the wii u.

Why a partnership with Nintendo? PS4 will be bigger than Wii U in Japan. ;)

The only thing Microsoft has that could benefit Nintendo in Japan is Minecraft. That's it. Not worth a partnership.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

I get the idea of the XBO's limited library in Japan and your idea of moving it to a more sucessful platform but shooters, especially FPSes have not been popular in Japan on any console. So what would be the purpose of MS spending money and resources to make Halo/Gears run great on the Wii U only for Japan, if the returns historically have not been great?

So you want Charlie to give Wonka-san their toy oven?

It would make more sense if they'd partner with Nintendo in the handheld market worldwide, if anything. Your suggestion would create a weird situation and every game developed would need a team making a different version that's able to run on WiiU. That development and those resources would be wasted on Japan. Microsoft used to greenlight games to be made on GBA and early DS, wonder why that stopped, they haven't been invested in mobile for that long?
