Forums - Sales - So, X360 greatly overtracked in the US by VGC?

After yesterday's NPD report, Microsoft has released a very informative PR statement, as can be found on Major Nelson's blog (http://majornelson.com/2015/01/15/xbox-one-closes-record-breaking-holiday-looks-ahead-2015/

The very first interesting statistic is:

Some interesting statistics about 2014:

• Xbox 360 became the best-selling seventh generation console of all time in the U.S.

However, that statement is in direct collision with VGC numbers:

LTD numbers say:

X360 --- 44,357 million

Wii ------ 41,636 million     (2,721 million difference)

However, 2014 sales are:

X360 ---- 1,431 million

Wii    ----- 0,206 million  (1,225 million difference)

This means, even if we assume that X360 passed Wii on the very last day of 2014 (and disregard a possible few thousand that could have been sold until Jan.3, 2015), there is still a huge 1,496 million difference in sales.

Basically, X360 is at least 1,5 million overtracked in the USA.

Yes, it is.

In 9 years, the 360 have sold just 300-400k more than the Wii, that have 8 year's, for not considering that new N console is coming 1 year before new MS console...

That is not bad for XB360, that is after DS and PS2 the best seller ever in USA, but is a succes for the Wii!

Ps3 down 41% this january. is it overtracked too?

Well this is well know... During a x360 update of shipments ioi dumped almost 2M consoles in USA numbers to make his sold through closer to shipment - expected shelve units.

Azzanation: "PS5 wouldn't sold out at launch without scalpers."

Maybe we undertracked the Wii...

This has been known for a long time, and it is apparently because ioi doesn't know where to put the units so he just placed them in America.

Well, maybe now is a perfect opportunity to take them out of the US and dump them somewhere where nobody will ever notice (RoW of course, nobody will ever give any definitive statement about X360 sales there)

That's true!And xbox360 isn't the only example of that situation!:P

It happens!

Well yes it is heavily overtracked in the US.

By 5 July 2014.

Both are correct:

Wii is undertracked and XB360 is overtracked.
