Lol!!, on tooic: but seriously. I think if a lot of core Nintendo fans bought a ps or an Xbox they'd be pleasantly surprised with the new ip's they're shooting out.

the same "nintendo never makes new ip" post that's been made 10000x already.

new franchises and characters only make sense in the context of new gameplay mechanics. in fact, the overall "goodness" of a video game character is that character's versatility in terms of being able to accommodate different gameplay ideas... for example, kirby has been a golf ball, a pinball, a pink ball needing guidance through a stage (canvas curse), a cotton ball (epic yarn)... mario has been a "jumpman," a construction worker, a plumber, a tennis player, a golf player, a kart driver, a soccer player, a basketball player, an rpg hero, etc. etc.

This is a strawman thread, you know.

What does this mean? (I'm seriously asking)

Meaning these nebulous "core Nintendo fans" are a strawman. You craft them to have the qualities you need for your argument to work, despite the actual core Nintendo fans in this thread who are refuting your points.

Yet still, you have created an amorphous strawman. A fine feat.

time and time again people talk about the power of the system being the reason while GC was stronger than PS2 and equal to Xbox more or less and still it got less 3rd party games than those two.

blaming the fans is getting old as we don't eat up shit made by 3rd parties and people need to get that through their thick skull! Nintendo fans aren't like the other two who eat up just about anything before it is even released.

And where the hell have you heard that we don't want new IP? of course we do but we also want old IPs as well.

I love it when every now and then a guy likes to play expert on what Nintendo should do and has done wrong to end in it's situations starts babling. Give it a rest already the same shit has been spoken hundreds of times and you do it without considering how fans feel or that Nintendo is trying to be profitable.

@bolded: Well, that's a pretty rude thing to say isn't it? You say the non-Nintendo fans need to realize that you guys don't want to just eat everything up. Who says we do? Who says we, like you, can't have our own feelings as to what we like. Hypocritical much? Also, did you happen to forget I'm a big Nintendo fan?

This is a sales site, that's what we do. We analyze and try to give our thoughts on sales. If you don't want part in it, don't post in the threads that are sales based. I rarely do nowadays. I simply had an idea and wanted to share.

you're using sales to blame Nintendo fans of something so I'm just using your logic on the other two fanbases. obviously 3rd party sales are down on WiiU because we have learned not to buy into crap while others buy every remaster/crappy port or buggy games in the millions so you see where I am getting this from?

your OP isn't really anything new, it's merely a copy past of other posters posting the same thing hence why I said this shit has been talked about hundreds of times already.

No its because Nintendo fans are childish!! XD lol just kidding. But seriously. Don't act all high and mighty about 3rd party. It's not because you have exquisite taste. It's because most wii u owners have another system that's more powerful or that has more support so they choose to buy their multiplats there. Why would I buy a multiplat on my Wii U when I have an Xbox One? ( I don't have a wii u yet but you get the point).

At present, I don't see anything on PS4 or Xbone that makes me want to buy one.

How can u sell 3rd party games on a console if it doesn't get them?

Wii U had decent 3rd party support at launch but most of them were destined to fail. Tekken Tag 2, Darksiders 2, Ninja Gaiden 3 were all games that didn't even sell very well on PS360, consoles with 80m+ install bases. Mass Effect 3 was sold for $60 when PS360 got the entire trilogy for the same price. Arkham City was a year old port that sold similar to some of the year old ports on Xbox One. Call of Duty & Assassin's Creed were really the only ones that had a chance of selling well.

Now, if 3rd parties really had any intention of supporting Wii U then they would have had games scheduled for post-launch, which pretty much none did. In the first 3 quarters of 2013, Injustice and Splinter Cell were the only somewhat significant 3rd party titles that werent late ports, that's a span of 9 months.

For the holidays it got a second batch of Call of Duty, Assassin's Creed, Batman but after 9 months of no support the damage was pretty much already done. Why would I buy a companies games if they are going to treat me like a 2nd class customer?

Honestly, thinking about it now, it's not just a Wii U problem. Nintendo consoles always showed low 3rd party interest starting with the N64. It's only getting worse. Maybe 3rd parties just expect so little going in, it has become a lost cause

N64 did have a decent amount of successful 3rd party titles tho. LucasArts had alot of success with their Star Wars titles. Acclaim had alot of success with Turok and some sports titles. Wrestling games sold very well for THQ. Sports/Racing games sold well from Midway. Tony Hawk sold over 2 million despite being a late port. Actually shooters, sports and racing games sold well in general for N64.

GC also had a fair share of successful 3rd party games as well. Sonic & Super Monkey Ball sold well for Sega. The Resident Evil remake, Zero & RE4 averaged about 1.5 million each, I actually believe they could have sold better if REmake/Zero didnt release just a few months apart cannabilizing each others sales and RE4 was announced for PS2 just before it launched on GC, hurting it's sales. Tales of Symphonia is one of the best selling Tales games of all time. Soul Calibur II sold very well. Need for Speed Underground 1/2 each sold over 1 million. Spider-Man sold over 1 million. Star Wars Rogue Squadron games sold well once again.

Wii had alot of successful 3rd party games. Kids games like Lego, Skylanders, Disney games sold very strong. Dance/fitness/music games like Zumba, Just Dance, Guitar Hero, Rock Band sold alot. Madden, Need for Speed, FIFA, Tiger Woods all sold pretty well for EA. The Force Unleashed games sold well. Resident Evil games sold well. Sonic games sold well. A bunch of 3rd party games sold over 1 million on Wii.

When the herd loses its way, the shepard must kill the bull that leads them astray.

I most definitely am... Since I haven't bought one yet.

You know, I play a lot fewer games nowadays than I used to, and the deficiency is entirely on the third-party side. I bought every Tony Hawk game except 2 until the series became crap and was ultimately abandoned. Now they're making a new one and even though I'd be interested if it's good, Activision probably won't even try to sell it to me because I didn't buy Call of Duty and Skylanders every year like a good little gamer. This is how a lot of third parties handled their relationship with me as a customer over the past ten years, and it's bullshit. They had a loyal customer in me who bought a lot of their games, and they ruined it for themselves by letting the series I liked go downhill or ceasing production of them entirely. Now because I don't like Assassin's Creed or Madden I'm considered worthless by these guys.

I don't buy every game Nintendo publishes by a long shot, and they've never treated me like a second-class customer just because I don't buy NSMB or every Pokemon game. It's not as though they never put series on the backburner (or finish them entirely as with Mother) or mishandle an entry or two, but they haven't yet replaced every decent franchise they own with crap I don't care about for an entire generation.

The only ones who are to blame for a product's poor position are the makers of that product. There are lots of ways Nintendo can remedy the situatio, but they all cost money. Nintendo is allergic to spending money on anything they don't own.

I get it. This is true, I was wrong and apologize if I offended anybody.

You can lock this thread if you want. Thanks

I dont get how buying a PS makes you see this, it seems the top selling PS4 games are just sequels. Maybe gamers in general are killing new IPs. Look at the movies - seuqels everywhere, do we really need another Paranormal Activity Movie, Taken 3? Shovel the same slop with prettier packaging, over and over.

Maybe society is simply to blame, for being sheep that just follow the herd.
