Forums - Nintendo - Amiibos - Are they worth buying beyond collection purposes?

I don't know if it is good to invest in them. A few of them are hard to find, unless you want to spend +$30, and the quality on some of them are rather poor. I would rather wait for the Amiibo cards since they will be cheaper, more abundant and higher quality.

I just hope that lumbering manchild that's buying the Amiibo does not decide to buy a crap ton of cards either.

I have 2 Amiibos and my kid has one, its great fun training them up and they become a very formidable opponent. Its also fun pitting my Amiibo against my kids one, it creates some good banter between us. Its nice that there are other extras like outfits in Mario Kart and daily gifts in Hyrule Warriors, im also hoping Amiibo unlocks new stages in Captain Toad. A Skylanders-esque Amiibo game has to be in the works if Nintendo have any sense.

Depends really.
So far I wouldn't recommend them to many people, but having 1 amiibo already gives you a good impression.
I'd wait before I get more though!

Getting common ones like Mario, Link, and Pikachu is relatively easy, and I'd say $13 dollars is a reasonable price for a decent looking figurine that grants you cool little bonuses in games.

Don't even think about getting ones like Marth, Villager, or Wii Fit Trainer if you're gonna use amiibos mainly for in-game stuff. The prices for them are pretty ridiculous, and the only reason you'd ever wanna buy them is for collection purposes.

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

Way too pricey. They might as well make them a simple toy, sell them for $5 and make billions.

Yeah some of the prices are insane.  I saw Little Mac earlier for £56 on Amazon, which is about $90

What other reason is there to buy them besides collecting?

You just reworded the title. Congrats?

I bet the Wii U would sell more than 15M LTD by the end of 2015. He bet it would sell less. I lost.
