Forums - Sales - Wii U 10 million what happened?

Darwinianevolution said:

Seeing Mario Kart 8 selling 4 millions on 7 months and Smash Bros 3 millions on 7 weeks... If Wii U sells 16 - 18m I´m seeing those games at 7 - 9m each one, almost a 50% ratio, so I think is not that hard for Zelda to reach 5m (and if is REALLY a masterpiece maybe much more), and 5m should be profitable IMO

Even if Zelda U becomes the most expensive game on the system, Nintendo has always spent the right amount of budget to not depend of high sales. I'm sure Zelda U will be profitable with only 2 million units.

Yes, I think so, maybe this particular game needs more sales, a sandbox of that size sure is expensive if they should polish everything as they are used to, but 2-3m should be enough for having positive numbers.

Nintendo will beat their original sales predictions from last year so they are right on course according to Nintendo. They are also selling Amiibo hand over fist and already carved out a big market share in that market. They just need to make a adventure MMO that features Amiibos you can level up and you'll have one of the biggest Wii U sellers. If they make a Pokemon MMO with collectible pokemon Amiibos then I wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo is printing money with Wii U at the end of the generation.

The most interesting question is, how long will Wii U games sell?
Nintendos first party titles tend to sell really long, with legs longer than Bayonettas.
Pikmin 3 is one of the not so good selling, it still managed to sell 27,9% of it's year one sales in 2014, at least according to VGC.
Super Mario 3D World managed to have 80,5% of its 2013 sales, though it was released in late 2013. Still that's unusual today.

Mario Kart 8 could possibly be at 6 million at the end of this year.
SSBU is a little harder to predict. But 4 million seem possible as well.

Both will likely reach those numbers without bigger pricecuts.

A seemingly 'flopped' game like Tropical Freeze as well turns out to still sell.

So at least Zelda U should not only sell well but have some good. old Nintendolegs. Having it making money still depends of a budget no one knows, so even a good selling Zelda could be a generate losses. But not in Shenmue like dimensions.

Maybe people were predicting before 2015 end not beggining.../jk

Everybody was hoping for better sales after smash and mk.

At the current performance, I am not sure if Nintendo should release ZeldaU and Xenoblade on WiiU or their next next-gen-system, to be honest.

That would be like how Sony Treated the PSVita =( - and we dont want Nintendo to Give up this early.

I guess it happened just like with the PS4 reaching 20mil before 2015 - I guess we 'Overestimated' the consoles.

You never exactly know how what the console makers will do etc.

I guess the most expected Nintendo would cut Wii U's price. That didn't happen.

The Japan sales except for 3DS were worse than almost everyone expected.

And MS got rid of Kinect, cut the price etc.

Just imagine how 2014 would have turned out if MS had stayed with Kinect and not cut the price, instead Nintendo selling Wii U for 50$/€ less.

Not enough christmases so far! I expect it to happen around June-July 2015.

Haha, found my 2014 predictions from elsewhere, which i did not mean that serious.

End of 2014 sales
PS4 20 million
Xone 10 million
Wii U 10 million

Vita slightly below 10 million
3DS selling 13-14 million in 2014>53-54 in total.

text is in german. Down in the comments section.

Definitely expected a bit to much from Nintendo it seems. Then again, i thought Wii U really would get a price cut before christmas.

Who thought the Wii U would reach 10 million. o.O

I thought it would reach arround 10m in february.
But that was with expecting a pricecut and Smash U being released before/simultanously.
