OP acknowledges Super Mario Bros as the most revolutionary game ever, so I'm completely lost with what you're trying to say.

It is as far as the platforming genre was in its day. Animal Crossing and Wii Sports were not revolutionary, but rather innovative. Revolutions change the way the industry makes games within a small amount of time.

IE: Super Mario 64 revolutionized open world gaming prompting other games to follow.  Before that open world games already existed on PC. GTA 3 revolutionized what Super Mario 64 revolutionized a generation later.

Does this suffice for example? No one is following Wii Sports or Animal Crossing.

Okay. Nintendogs it is then.

Knights of the Old Republic.

Let me guess: It revolutionized how awful teammates' AI could be in a game (everything else seems to be a mix of previous Bioware games in 3D).

For me, Halo: Combat Evolved has more than proven that it's a timeless classic. Even in 2015, I still love its single player campaign as well as its multiplayer.

Hyperbole galore. The "standard for the total package of gaming" was revolutionary? lol, ok.

Cinematics, dramatic camera angles... you really should try the couple of Tomb Raiders before Drake's Fortune :)

Thats so interesting...so why then would the Tomb Raider reboot feel the need to take notes from Uncharted if it did what things the way Uncharted did already? They were similar, but Uncharted too its queues primarily from Resident Evil, Winback & Killswitch just like Gears of War. Gears of War revolutionized tps multiplayer and Uncharted revlotionized the single player narritive in tandem with gameplay into one cohesive existence. Uncharted didn't allow itself to feel seperate.

SUPER MARIO BROS. FOR NES for showing that games can reach mainstream media without being linked to school shootings.

Fixed it for you

Between the games in the poll I'd say Gears of War brought something different in term of gameplay. I hope to see a new IP this gen that does what Gears of War did when it came out.

Look up Killswitch and RE4. They took their queues from that. Revolutionized multiplayer forever. Gears is my favorite Xbox game of all time.

I haven't seen one single person come up with the correct answer...

...it is of course Dance, Dance Revolution (wink)

come on guys and gals how hard is it? It has "revolution" right in the bloody title.

How was Galaxy revolutionary? It didn't start any sort of revolution in gaming. Innovative, yes. Revolutionary, no.

Only right answer is Halo. Not only was it the biggest reason for the Xbox selling as well as it did, without which there might not have been a 360, it also greatly boosted the popularity and playability of FPSes on consoles. Halo 2 was also one of the first big online console games.

This is basically exactly what I was going to say, so I'll just quote it instead of taking 5 minutes to slightly re-word the same thing.

I'm sure Galaxy was an amazing game (I never played it), but what exactly did it revolutionize? From the trailers and footage I've seen it just looks like Super Mario 64 with obviously way more going on and HD graphics. Did it really revolutionize the platformer genre? I don't get how it's winning this poll...besides bias.

I voted Halo. It revolutionized first person shooters on consoles. Being a guy that missed out on Goldeneye when it was new, and having played it for the first time a couple years ago...I have no idea how people enjoyed it back then...the control scheme gave me cancer. Thank God Halo and other games around that time figured out about the dual joystick method.

I loved Mario Galaxy (btw it's not HD :p) but it's evolutionary, not revolutionary. I have no idea how it's winning the poll either. Clearly not voting with a level head.

Goldenye was utterly amazing back when it came out, but you've got to remember, dual analogue FPS controls just weren't really known then. The PS1 and Saturn used a D-pad, so the N64 with a trigger and analogue control was revolutionary as far as those games went on consoles. Dual analogue controls didn't really set in until the PS2 as that was the first console with dual analogue as the standard setup.

RIP Dad 25/11/51 - 13/12/13. You will be missed but never forgotten.

I would say that the souls game are a new genre now, death pain and suffering RPG or DPSRPG so ill go with souls.
