Most of those sales are coming from PS3 (860k). Outside of Pokemon, Monster Hunter you will struggle to find many games on any platform doing 900k in Japan. Theres no downplaying it, its success is made even more special because Japan really don't buy into western styled/developed games.

I'm not down playing it. I'm saying that it doesn't mean that western or console games are suddenly on the rise because of it. It's setting records everywhere, so it's no surprise that it could set some in Japan as well.

when compared with how much it sold in the rest of the world (what like 40+ million total) it really is not that impressive
you have to understand that while it's cool that it broke some sort of threshold, however it was a giant game and percentage / proportionate wise (Japan sales compared to worldwide) it sold similarly to how well games usually do there
its just that GTA 5 is one of the biggest games of all time

it's just not impressive when you consider what the game has sold worldwide. there is no comparison to GTA5 in sales so you can't exactly label as doing anything special in Japan when proportionately it did not sell that great vs worldwide/Europe/USA

It sold ~900k on PS3 alone and just released on PS4. 360 version is irrelevant there.
