Japan has specific tastes, I guess.

More like it's been a very bad year outside of the big franchises that received new titles.

I find it amusing how good 3DS HW has done on a "dying" market. This year everyone will say the japanese market has revived thanks to PS4, calling that now XD



Bet with bluedawgs: I say Switch will outsell PS4 in 2018, he says PS4 will outsell Switch. He's now permabanned, but the bet will remain in my sig.

If you look at the graph on the source thread, it shows that 2014 is the worst year on record for the Japanese game industry since 1990.

It's important to know for comparison's sake. That while, yes, Nintendo and in particular the 3DS have been dominant for some time, the overall size of the industry has shrunk considerably since 2009.

This sort of echos what Iwata was saying in an interview that was published last month. That in Japan, 3DS is the only system in history that has ever had four consecutive two million-sellers in four months. This means that yes, 3DS is incredibly successful, but it also signals that most software sales are from AAA titles and that the middle of the market is vanishing. The AAA sales are strong, but they're not enough to make up for the overall loss.



The Screamapillar is easily identified by its constant screaming—it even screams in its sleep. The Screamapillar is the favorite food of everything, is sexually attracted to fire, and needs constant reassurance or it will die.

Generally people are talking about consoles, when talking about a dying market. As screamapillar linked, this is the worst year in over two decades. Let that sink in.

Thats quite impressive ans tells a lot about the futur 

 

PS4 sold better with almost no japanese system seller while WiiU got 2 biggest Nintendo system seller

It sold more than 600K units. It had an underwhelming year to say the least. It will get its hitters this year, yes, but I'm not sure if it will be able to sell enough to reach PS3 LTD numbers. If 3DS can't sell 100K a week, why PS4 should?

EDIT: It sold 309K on its launch, I don't know where did I get the 600K.



My bet with The_Liquid_Laser: I think the Switch won't surpass the PS2 as the best selling system of all time. If it does, I'll play a game of a list that The_Liquid_Laser will provide, I will have to play it for 50 hours or complete it, whatever comes first.

The console market is dying in Japan but handhelds continue to do well there. The handheld market is dying everywhere else though .
