Consumer hard week sales ranking

Media Create for the week ending January 4th is set to come tomorrow.

Quite interesting that Gundam Breaker Vita is seeing less of a drop over the holidays than the PS3 version. First time I can ever remember this happening - normally the PS3 version has longer legs because of the userbase difference (I assume).

Bit of a difference in hardware there too. Looking at general trends - PS hardware is all around ~ 3k higher on Media Create, while Nintendo hardware is all around ~5k+ lower on Media Create (3DS considerably lower).

Maybe that says something about the actual stores they poll - just an interesting thought.

Bad numbers everywhere. Year over year even the 3DS is down massively despite the redesign: 5 million in 2013 vs 3 million in 2014. Japan has always been the 3DS's strongest market but it will be painful to watch Nintendo's sales in 2015 / 2016 before their next generation of hardware arrives. How are they supposed to make money with the Wii U below 5m and the 3DS probably below 10m in 2015?
Vita is painful to watch, too. Japan is its only healthy market and seeing it that low is bad.
Wii U is far below Gamecube in yearly sales (GC sold roughly 1m units per year in Japan for most of its life) and that won't change next year.
And Xbox One is selling way below what the 360 did in Japan (back when Microsoft really tried to push the system).

Market doesn't look healthy right now.

You make one big mistake about 3DS,New 3ds/xl released on 11th of October,stopped a 50% decline and got 3ds yoy up since its release!New3ds/xl reached 1.238m sales by the end of 2014,surpassed psvita 2014 sales in just two months and a half and surpassed dsi sales in the same time frame...;)

But most of that incline was due to launch week. The new systems released in October but now, just two months later, yoy sales are down again. It's normal for a hardware revision to boost sales for a few weeks but the boost has already ceased and the 3DS is down again. I'm not trying to paint a negative picture here but next year won't have that "omg new hardware!" boost so we're probably looking at less than 3m sales for the 3DS next year (especially with Nintendo's teams slowly moving onto the next handheld).

For the first three quarters of the year, 3DS was trending down 50% YoY, for the last quarter it's sales were basically flat YoY so the redesign did in fact help out sales by quite a bit. Also they make money by selling consoles at a profit while also selling a ton of 1st party software along with Amiibo and accessories.

The discrepancy is real! Media Create higher on PS4 and lower on WiiU. I wonder what LTD they show for PS4?
