Is it? What if it is really a marketing move rather than financial. Gives them chance to do another sale like this, people will think it is only temporary again so may be more inclined to bite.

MS can't afford to just throw money away. It's insane that forum users think it's insane NOT to throw money away.

Gotta spend money to make money, eh?

There's a difference between speculating to accumulate and throwing the baby out with the bath water. If they'd have won WW then yes, perhaps your argument could hold water, but it didn't and it gained MS very little in terms of penetration (versus the PS4)

The PS5 Exists.

Guess this means that a lot of people who suddenly loved Amazon best sellers list from November on, will go back to not caring about them like the 10 months prior..

Yikes. Sales will become terrible again.

Microsoft is pretty good at selling Sony's consoles.

Such stupid move, so X1 going back to low 80k until october

It's a financial move, not a stupid move. Traditionally MS has always won the Christmas period by 800k - 1.2m but that was WW. This year they actually lost WW. As much as MS and media outlets like to push the US = The World narrative, the reality is business is about making money not losing it.

Is it? What if it is really a marketing move rather than financial. Gives them chance to do another sale like this, people will think it is only temporary again so may be more inclined to bite.

ka-pi96 has a point. Imho the sales numbers would drop like a rock even if the 350 price was kept. So it's better to sell few at a profit than few (even if "a bit more") at a loss. Makes business and financial sense. I don't like this way of doing things but it's not like I'm an investor or have a stake in it. If they want to play the pre-season and season game, let them.. As a selfish PS fan i'm happier with year-long wins than short lived ones :3

Sony is saving quite a lot of money on advertising.

duduspace11 "Well, since we are estimating costs, Pokemon Red/Blue did cost Nintendo about $50m to make back in 1996"

Mr Puggsly: "Hehe, I said good profit. You said big profit. Frankly, not losing money is what I meant by good. Don't get hung up on semantics"

Azzanation: "PS5 wouldn't sold out at launch without scalpers."

I prédiction low 80k baseline until april, and then low 50k baselinr until october

Predictions for end of 2014 HW sales:

 PS4: 17m   XB1: 10m    WiiU: 10m   Vita: 10m

Awww

It will surely just be temporary though. I can't see them keeping it at that price much longer.

So you want MS to keep lose tons of money...
