VGchart's own tools provide this graphic from the latest data.

Noticeable  are the spikes at christmas and deep droughts in between. Kart 8 system-seller is also visible.

Also noticable is the Splatoon push, even though it's spike is much smaller than the one from MK8, as well as generally more spikes this year than in previous years. One can clearly see Nintendo is trying to get more software ready, even if some releases are region-based (Xenoblade Cronicles X) or smaller titles as a result of this.
