Forums - Microsoft - Thank goodness for this game..

I downloaded Sunset Overdrive for $30 on Xbox Live during a daily and boy did I get a deal. I would've paid $60 for it after what I know now. I am having so much fun and I feel like I can make mistakes in the game without being hindered by repercussions and just experiment with it. If I lose I really don't lose, I just come back and get the job done again. The traversal system is so fun and if you play third person shooters and infamous it shouldn't be hard to get the hang of at all. Its like the perfect blend of infamous, Dead Rising and Rachet and Clank, plus the game is purely comical in a way that and makes fun of itself.  I was in the middle of playing Dragon Age, but this game did it in. Its just pure fun. Theres nothing I love more than a game that challenges me to mix up my moves and combo kill in whatever way I see fit. The only thing that isn't in this game that should be in it is Dead Pool. He'd fit right in.

Thank goodness for this game. I needed it.

It makes me sad that such an original game was doomed to get mediocre sales. It simply didn't attract many Xbone players.

I was kind of niche game to begin with. Not many people expected it to sell all that much.

What about the game made it niche?

It wouldn't have been niche on PS4.

Their primary fanbase was built on Sony platforms, so it might take some time before Xbox gamers get the hang of Insomniac games. Sony screwed up getting this game exclusively, but I am so glad someone funded it. I am also glad to have both consoles and be out of the exclusivity crosshairs because its not the best game of 2014, but it is soooooooooooooooooo fun (imho). I wanted to take a small break from Dragon Age Inquisiiton and this was just what the doctor ordered. Pure fun. Very underrated.

Its not about whether its niche or not. Its just that Insomniacs type of games grew to fame on Sony platforms. Its mostly Sony fans who know and appreciate their pedigree even though they were always a second tier Sony second party game partner.

It's not a military shooter, sports game or RPG. That's why I said "kind of niche". Also, the recent Insomniac games haven't done that well commercially.

It's possible but we won't know.

Popular niche games are industry changing games, if a game as colorful, bright, and original as this was popular enough it could've had an impact in the industry and just maybe we wouldn't have developers being so afraid of trying something other than gritty shooters to guarantee sales. I guess that I'm not really sad at its sales, just at its wasted potential.
