Except it was by the majority. Also, way to exaggerate.
Digital foundry verdict:
"Despite a few blemishes, then, The Last of Us represents the pinnacle of Naughty Dog's efforts and a fitting conclusion to its current-gen contribution. Over the last few years the studio has redefined expectations on PS3, pushing Sony's hardware in ways few others have achieved, and this game does it yet again.
Indeed, the recent announcement that an enhanced version of the engine used to create The Last of Us will be used to power the studio's PS4 titles should come as no surprise. The stunning offline-rendered "in-engine" cut-scenes already demonstrate a small taster of the basic improvements that are possible without the limitations of the PS3 hardware, and the developer's first next-generation release is likely to be even more impressive.
Increased detail is of course welcome, but The Last of Us also hints at how much more interactive environments in next-gen titles could be, and the transformative effect this could have on gameplay. Combine that with a revised take on the kind of AI explored here and we could be in for some very special games.
In the here and now, while performance across the board might not be as solid as in the last two Uncharted games, The Last of Us is a far more refined and balanced experience in other respects. The careful mix of combat, stealth and narrative creates a gripping experience - one of the best of this generation - and you can feel how mindful Naughty Dog was in how it overlaid these components. In many respects, in fact, this isn't just a hint at what might be possible on a next-generation platform, but a game that delivers on that promise today, and we can't wait to see what else Naughty Dog does to surprise us in the future."
The reason they didn't have any winners this year at least is that both of their biggest games were competitive multiplayer games with no story. It pretty much doesn't matter how great your game is; if it doesn't blow us away with a great story or incredible depth it's not going to win GOTY. Mario Kart and Smash are still just Mario Kart and Smash.
And Bayonetta? Way too niche.

I think this is the 4th or 5th time I've seen you cherry pick that 18fps figure ^^ You make it sound as if drops under 20 aren't incredibly rare.
TLOU's frame-rate on the PS3 was by no means perfect (especially the school bus section), it spent the majority of its time at around 25 - 30fps with adaptive motion blur to help clean out the fluctuations, but that didn't stop it being the most enjoyable gameplay experience i'd had since A Crack in Time in 2009 and Galaxy 2 in 2010. If critics loved it as much as i did, which they certainly seem to have, then i'm not surprising it won so many GOTY awards.

Aren't those stupid reasons though?
Someones brings up TLOU, and RIGHT AWAY somebody else says it's an "interactive movie".
Hilarious. A little old, but still hilarious.
Anyways, DA:I is my GOTY, but from an objective point of view, Super Smash Bros. should be the game that wins the most awards. The game is the closest from perfect I've seen in a while, with tons of content, great graphics, great gameplay and framerate, etc... A stellar game.
Bayonetta 2 is absolutely brilliant, but it's WAY too short.
Just because you have an opinion doesn't mean you are necessarily right.

Exactly, last year for example Zelda won's Gamespot GOTY and SMW3D won Eurogamer's.

It certainly didn't win the awards because the gameplay which involved loads of ladder climbing and other tedious stuff. Not sure why people get offended when someone says a game feels like a movie. It's not always a bad thing.

I'm not offended at all, don't worry.
"loads of ladder climbing" => Please, that's something you do like 5-7 times maximum in the whole game. And the game lasts 15-20 hours, with about 2 hours of cutscenes.
"other tedious stuff" => Like what ? Combat, gunfights, exploration, crafting, stealth ? Oh my, horrible !
An "Interactive Movie" would be Heavy Rain, Beyond Two Souls, or even the games Telltale are making nowadays. But not for TLOU. The player has full control of his character's actions through the whole game. A game based on its story is NOT a movie.
Also, when I see what you say about the game's gameplay, I seriously doubt you've played it more than 1-2 hours. It has been unanimously acclaimed. Nothing revolutionary, of course, but all it does, it does great, when not perfect. Saying the game is full of ladder climbing is just plain wrong. Yes, these parts of the game aren't exactly a blast, but there isn't a lot of them. Like, not at all.
So once again, an "Interactive Movie" isn't necessarily a bad thing, but TLOU is not an interactive movie, no matter how you try to put it. It has a story and characters, yes, like a lot of other games. But does that make it a movie, when there is 15+ hours of gameplay, and only a few cutscenes here and there ? Nope. Absolutely not.
If you didn't enjoy playing it, it's okay. But your statements are simply wrong, no disrespect.
Just because you have an opinion doesn't mean you are necessarily right.
Didn't Smash, Bayonetta 2 and Mario Kart all win GOTY awards? Whats the problem here? I remember seeing that thread listing all the games that have won GOTY awards so far.
