During the last investor meeting, Iwata said the 3DS would probably become the 1st platform ever with 4 different 2 million sellers in 5 months. Well, it did happen, and Nintendo just put out a PR to break the news.

Obviously, the four 2 million sellers aren't surprising:

Youkai Watch 2

Super Smash Bros. for 3DS

Monster Hunter 4G

Pokémon Omega Ruby / Alpha Sapphire

Sales data goes up to Dec. 7, so that means that Pokémon OR/AS reached 2m (including digital sales) this week-end.

Number of 2 million sellers in Japan per platform:

3DS: 10

DS: 14

Wii: 8

Hmm DS has 14 million sellers and 3DS already 10? That's doable, 3DS could beat DS on the million-seller front.

It's funny how the 3DS library was considered a bit barren for this year compared to last year, but then it manages this... of course that's because of the Japan specific titles (Youkai Watch and MH4, for now) and the games that were coming out were big ones.

Wuh, that's impressive. Just noticed that 3DS already beats Wii. Wow. Wii had a much bigger install base and the time for game selling is not over for 3DS yet. Not bad.

Yeah. The 3DS has some insane attatch rates. Might have to do with the lack of easy piracy.

I don't think piracy plays a big role here. I think this shows more than anything else that 3DS is incorporation of Nintendos comeback to the hardcore-strategy after the blue ocean experiment with Wii/DS.
