Forums - Sales - No sales milestone announcement to PlayStation Experience?

itsFizz said:

Well IF we consider that statement of it being the fastest selling console in history to be true (up to the beginning of december) then it MUST have sold more than the wii in the same amount of time.

Also I think the next sales milestone to announce would be 20 million.

PS: Woot !! first post

Welcome to the site and I agree with you.

how about i provide 1 fact after you provide 1 fact.

unclear pr statement is unclear.  i will not draw a conclusion based on suspicion.

Fair enough...

Sony has shipped 13.5M since launch  article put up Oct 31st (not middel of november as you calimed)
FY15
Q2 - 3.3M (quater ending sept 2014)
Q1 - 2.7M
FY14
Q4 - 3M
Q3 - 4.5M (opening quater)

Now let us ignore the PR or spin or whatever you wanna call it. And just look at their shipment numbers. Notice the numbers are ramping up in FY14Q2? 3.3M from 2.7M the previous quater. Now I will ask you a simple question. Do you thik the numbers for the quater that consists of the months of Oct-december would be higher, lower or the same with the FY15Q2 quater.

Another fact, the quater of oct-dec has historically always had sales that doiuble or even triple normal quater sales. Do you want to dispute this too?

Now lastly, I find it really really ironical that you say "you will not draw a conclusion based on suspicion"
So what would you call what you are doing right now? What you are saying is based on the suspicion that they made an announcement in december while refering to numbers posted as of september. Its based on the conclusion that sony, has not been able to ship 3M consoles between october and november and as thus cannot possibly be the fastest selling console as of the end of december.

All you seem to be doing is drawing conclusions based on your own suspicions.

No need to talk numbers now, wait til it will have an impact. Now, they can talk about doing well, but not about hitting some mystical fanboy #. To them, they have to answer to investors. THe only announcement they can make that people are paying attention to is how many private social security #'s they got hacked for. Better to stay quiet when the news would say "Sony has announced 17 million PS4 Sold, but they were hacked last week and lost the SS# and salary info on all of the NA employees".

Sony Pictures was hacked not PlayStation.

Nice try though...psych :P

I know you were just kidding.

Of course, nobody in the media seperates the different divisions of a company and lays blame to only those that matter.

The Media can do no wrong, I'm appauled you don't give them the benefit of the doubt.

The answer is simple. Numbers are perfectly calculated (because they have to be) in ....quarterly reports....when was the end of the last quarter ? September. So dismissing others logic, based on this understanding that they could do this, they could do that.  KItler of all people isn't the type to downplay Sony for the sake of it either.

On that note, then none of us have any business being here on VGC. Neither are firms like NPD or any other sales tracking firm worth anything. We should all just wait for quaterly numbers instead.

Whats funny is that to dismiss all others logic is to also dismiss the fact that betwen when those numbers were put up and today there have been more shipments. So if we are gonna dismiss all logic, then nothing anyone is saying here, including me or you or Kitler applies. To consider that what you guys are saying is ossible, also means its fair game to consider that what what I am saying is possible.

Which leaves us to one thing.... sony announced 10M sales before releasing official shipment numbers. Almost two months before releasing offical shipment numbers actually. So now what makes more sense... sony is announcing being the fastest ever selling consolebased on numbers released in september, or based on sales that they are privy to know in the months that has followed? Ah well, in another 6 weeks I guess we will all know for certain.

Pretty much this.  ^^^^

That's the hard part for everyone, the waiting.

Knowing that, we all move forward making our own guesses.  If not, what would be the point of these forums?

What I wonder is, could those numbers in the opening montage actually be sales figures?

I mean, what else could it be?

Do you actually believe that vgchartz suddenly has the PS4 overtracked by 2 million?

Maybe the PS4 isn't selling "as well" as we think?

Do we know where that counter stopped at?

Won bet with t3mporary_126 - I correctly predicted that the Wii U's LTD at the end of 2014 would be closer to 9 million than 10 million. http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/post.php?id=6673287

I don't understand why some people will take what they know, ignore it, then replace it with what they think. How or why in God's name will they be referencing september sales in the first week of december when making an announcement about being the fastest selling console ever. Don't you think you are reaching there? If they said this in october or even november i could somehow agree with you. But they announced that just this past weekend yet you are somehow convinced they are refering to numbers based in september. smh.......

This so much!

I would like to add to your post that the quarterly reports are due by the last day of the month following the end of the quarter.  So that would mean the numbers would have to be filed by November 30th, which is days before the Playstation Experience.  Another thing to add would be what others have posted, which is the last number that was seen on screen "14,092,599".  Could this be the number that they have on file by the end of September?

first off,. lol but very true.

and second off is that you maybe phrased things better that i did.   even though sony surely knows their current numbers what are the odds that sony has a weekly breakdown of wii's numbers back in 2007?   the comparision is being made against the quarterly numbers i'll bet my hat on it.

doesn't mean that ps4 isn't still ahead but i don't think we can take that as fact either.  wii had a pretty massive holiday in 2007.
