Forums - Nintendo - If you hated Wind Waker, you'll really hate Zelda U.

Massive open world to freely wander in... If you like Skyrim, you should enjoy the new Hyrule.

It reminds me a little bit of the vision provided by the original Legend of Zelda with a world design akin to Shadow of the Colossus. I'm hoping for a seamless world with seamless transitions between over-world and underworld, with a story-line that induces strong themes (similar to MM) enhanced by side-quests that add to the main story's message. I also what a plethora of challenge dungeons (i.e Cave of Ordeals, Savage Labyrinth, etc.)

Also I want the "more enemies at night-time" thing to return.

From what we've been told and seen of the game, I don't think I'll be disappointed.

this comparison has some good points, but i think it's safe to say none of us know enough about zelda u to make any real proclamations in regard to it's relationship to wind waker (or any other zelda game for that matter)

Nah man I do not think so. The reason I did not like (well I liked it but not as much as oot and mm) Wind Waker was because it was too easy and the dungeons were very empty it felt like their was 0 enemies in them. The enemies also did nothing I could beat the whole dungeon with 1 heart they were so easy. The Trifoce quest felt like padding and was mandatory unlike cool side quests that you could do in OOT and MM.

Another thing I did not like about Wind Waker originally was the art style in 2003 it shattered my soul when they showed gameplay but its grown on me over time and especially WWHD it looks fucking amazing.

I like Hyrule field over the ocean also.

Completely disagree. Zelda WW was an excellent game, just played it (almost) through for the first time on Wii U. The flaws and reasons to hate it are:

-Toon Link. While Zelda U has some anime elements in its look, Link is not stubby with a giant head, and the whole look of things is not Disney. Older geeks love anime, so that style of cartoon is good.

-Nothing but water. The new world may not have content at every inch, but saying it's like a flat open sea is silly. It's land, and something could pop up or be hidden at any moment.

-The Triforce Quest. I can attest to the annoyance of this one. Haven't bothered beating WWHD yet because it bores me. But the developers are well aware of how much people didn't like it and there is nothing to indicate that such a thing would return.

It's safe to say the big things people didn't like about WW are not factors in Zelda U. The person who wrote this is just looking for attention.

I saw not much wrong with Wind Waker except for the triforce quest at the end. The world was fun and adventurous.

Good thing I liked Wind Waker then. :P

I think it´s too early to say.... but they improved WW with the WiiU version where the player could speed up sailing, they will sure has a solution for long travels on next Zelda game

Wind Waker is arguably one of the best Zelda games

fantastic storyline, fantastic big world with unique new combat styles, variety of islands and peoples, etc. I would like it to be like that

I mean I had my own island. how can I not dig that :O

All that sailing in WW doing nothing was really annoying, but I looked past it because the game was good.  It did feel like that was there for no reason other than for NIntendo to tout about having a big world, seems like they are doing the same thing with Zelda U.

I mean there was SOMETHING to do, you couldn't go that far without encountering a giant octopus or whatever. I do agree that it got tedious, but that is the environment of the story; a water world. can't exactly avoid sailing a lot.... I do feel as though it gave it a bit more realism, something people obviously may be torn about with a Zelda game

I rather liked the sailing, maybe would have preferred shorter sailing distances, but all the same didn't find it a problem
