That's why there are adjustments over time. 8 years old numbers are the most accurate you'll find on VGchartz, probably 2-3% error margin max.

There is a number, more than wii. It's an equation more than a definite number but that's more than nothing.

Timeframe : If Sony announce 20 millions sales tomorrow, are you going to ask for a timeframe or just accept that it means "as of now" ?

3% is around 500,000 consoles. enough to make it a ridiculous figure to make adjustments based off of, especially when you add in the vagueness of the statement.

Though this is true, I don't see a reason for them to 'announce' it, if it wasn't current.

To call it an announcement is really a stretch. It's a bit of gloating that was kept intentionally vague. So why read into something that intentionally is designed to withhold further information?

I looked up the Wii's shipment numbers up to September 30, 2007 and December 31, 2007. For the former, the Wii shipped 13.17M. By the end of 2007, the Wii shipped 20.14M units.

Checking VGC's numbers, up to Sept. 29, 2007, the site claimed that the Wii sold 12.43M units. Up to Dec. 29, 2007, VGC claimed that the Wii sold 19.51M units.

While we don't how much the Wii actually sold at those times, it doesn't seem that VGC was that far off. Also, Nintendo warned consumers in 2007 that the console would be supply constrained throughout that year, so shipped almost equaled sold-to-consumers.

I believe it very well is undertracked a bit, but how do we know he was using Wii's numbers up until December 8th?
He wouldn't know it's exact numbers for that week of December, he is most likely using numbers until the end of November for both of them.

Uhnnnn yes, sure Sony is certainly being vague because they could mean fastest selling but only count up to christmas last year... give it a rest...

Accept that unless you guys have better number, as of this week PS4 is still ahead of Wii shipped and probably sold *as I don't remember his exact words I can't afirm the second*... It doesn't matter if Wii is 5M or 25M for the same period, PS4 is at least 1 unit ahead of it... so using VGC numbers on Wii to claim theirs number for PS4 is undertracked is valid...

Are we so hurt by PS4 sucess that we have to oppose this announcement so it don't keep trending ahead of Wii?
