Forums - Nintendo - Why has Nintendo given up on Metroid?

Probably the same reason there isnt a new F Zero yet. Nintendo have stated they dont really have any ideas to make it fresh and new.

In a way that is good, but still a poor excuse overall.

I am sure we will hear of something E3 next year.

It hasn't.. I don't know why you assume this. They just confirmed StarFox U at the Game Awards this evening, and they will probably resurrect Metroid as well.

I can't chillax. I need my Metroid fix. I'm half expecting Nintendo to reveal a new console in 2016, what if Nintendo moves Metroid to that console? I'd have to wait even longer!

Possibly not. They could do a cross-console release like with Twilight Princess.

Why dont you inform yourself better? New metroids have been confirmed to be in the works. One 3D and one 2D.

Chilax and be patient. Get some Xenoblade X and Zelda goodness while you wait. I got no doubt that Metroid will be Nintendo's big 2016 game.

Don't lie, it's not confirmed.

Not officially, but i think it was Miyamoto himself at E3 that confirmed that they would have metroid back and there will be something for the 2D fans of metroid aswell. If this isnt confirmation, then i dont know what is besides an official announcement.

He specifically said that about the 2D part, he wasnt asked that part, he brought it up himself. That is a confirmation of at least a 3DS 2D metroid in my book. Why else would he even mention that?

Specifically, Nintendo has stated they have two styles of Metroid - Prime style and traditional 2D - and they want to take care of both and hope to share their work on it soon. That's essentially confirmed to be working on both. Also confirms Nintendo is pretending Other M never happened, which sounds like a good strategy to me :P

Edit:  The specific quote is, ‘So at this point we have two different types of Metroid games. We have the Prime style of Metroid game and we have the more traditional style of Metroid game. We feel that we do need to take care of both of these styles of play. And the hope is that at some point in the near future we’ll be able to share something about them’.

What about F Zero!

Sales. It always comes down to sales.

Hopefully Nintendo will announce something at E3! Metroid prime 4 would be pretty nice!

it's coming! Good things come to those who wait

People keep telling Nintendo to stop milking franchises, but yet they want them to milk them more.

How about giving Metroid a break and have Retro or whoever else work on something new? Metroid wont disappear and they can always come back to franchise.
