30 fps is crap. Bring on Saints Row 2.
Non Sequor and hsrob are exactly right.
If you look at Madden running at a smooth and locked 30FPS and Madden running at a smooth and locked 60FPs both on a TV they really aren't going to look that different.
If you look at Madden running at 30FPS while dipping down to 27-28 FPS you're not going to notice (you might notice 27) but if you're looking at Madden running 60FPS and it drops down to 55 you're going to notice.
That's why (or one of the why's) this game is running at 30fPS and there's absolutely no problem with that. By locking the game at 30 you can have more things in any given scene and if the occasional small dip does happen you're not going to notice.
The people that are whining that this game isn't 60FPS and this is no longer a day one purchase are just silly sheep who really just pay attention to bright colors and what people tell them is cool/important.
Saint's Row 2 will be awesome. The first one was great. Number 2 has the potential to be better than GTAIV, but all reviewers will mark it down for being a copycat.
starcraft - Playing Games = FUN, Talking about Games = SERIOUS
Considering how much is going on in GTAIV and the level of graphics and openness in the game I would have been very surprised if it had been 60 FPS.
For the record, 30FPS is the traditional frame rate in countries with 60Hz AC and 25FPS is the traditional frame rate in countries with 50Hz AC because TVs originally synced their frame rates with the AC cycle. The corresponding HDTV standards also allow for 60FPS or 50FPS respectively.
As far as I know, no commercially released console games try to render at a frame rate less than 30/25FPS or between 30/25FPS and 60/50FPS. Doing so would require repeating frames at fixed intervals and wouldn't accomplish much (e.g. if you drop every third frame you still have to render two frames back to back, and so assuming each frame takes the same amount of computation to render you should be able to just as easily render every frame).
It seems the people complaining are largely the same as those complaining about CoD4 being 600p. They simply refuse to believe the frame buffers on HD systems can only do so much.
A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.
Plus, just for the hell of it: Kelly Brook at the 2008 BAFTAs
Just For the record, i never said anything about wanting it to run at 60fps. I was just posting some news, that people may have liked to know.
But i do believe it drops below 30fps, it will drop off my buy list.
It most certainly will drop below 30FPS. It could be another Two Worlds averaging below 20FPS
This Framerate topic is so funny.
I have no idea what framerate any of my games I own are and I dont care.
I love and play them all.
Lost Odyssey is the best looking game I've ever seen. Both in animation and in graphical content.
Ive had it 4 days and have been totaly blown away. I looks even better than Mass Effect which previously was easily the best of the generation. So If someone said Lost Odyessey was 30 FPS, I'd say I'm glad. Because nothing on any system has come close to lokking as good as it does.
