could they be going third party on mobile. Good decision from a money making viewpoint but their gaming handhelds are all but dead if they do. Prob a wise move given the steep decline in HW sales.

Well I am one of the people that supports the idea of a Nintendo mobile division this or next handheld.
This is just an update, the patent dates back to 1999. So I wouldn't make any hopes about seeing something realized from this.
About damn time you woke up Nintendo! Now give us some N64 emulatiin on ps4.
so, any other existing emulator will have to pay nintendo. seems a smart move, even if nothing of this be implemented.
This is probably them putting a copyright so that others can't do it, not because they actually intend to do it themselves.
It's highly unlikely anything will come from this ofcourse, but it's good to see Nintendo actually taking steps towards doing SOMETHING just in case I suppose.
