As of when? Cause surely they've got to have decreased the overall loss since then as I assume the PS3 is pure profit now.

I'm not sure actually. This is the most accurate article I can find from 2009:

http://www.mcvuk.com/news/read/post-ps3-losses-hit-4-7bn/010800

Considering that since then the games division has announced both losses and small profits, the overall loss should be around $5bn.

"One mitigating factor to note is that since the beginning of 2009 any PlayStation related numbers also incorporate the performance of its Vaio PC operation"

It includes losses from Vaio.

Yeah that's true too. There's actually no actual numbers for the PS3's losses. PS3 losses from the earlier years of the games division would be much bigger than they actually were because losses from the PS3 were lowered by big profits from the PS2 (PS2 sold a lot after PS3 came out and PSP was doing very well at the time).

That's true, but losses from post 2010 (that's when PS3 hardware was sold at a profit) can also be attributed to R&D of Vita+Vita+Vaio. There's really no way to know. It lost a lot at least!

haha, yeah we'll never know about the actual numbers. Vaio used to make large losses as well but I think Sony moved the PC business to a different division in 2009 or 10.

The N64 is probably my favorite console of all time along with the original Playstation. There was such innovation going on with both consoles that has never been mirrored since. Super Mario 64 basically changed the way 3D gaming was done. Sure it was not the first 3D game out but it perfected the way they controlled and was pioneering. Games like Fade to Black came out prior but controlled terribly to where they hindered the experience. Goldeneye was also revolutionary in that it showed consoles could do first person shooters and also introduced stealth elements(silenced weapons, hit-location on enemies, free-aim, sniper rifles etc). Then came Ocarina of Time which aside from the great gameplay and puzzles, introduced z-aiming which is still seen in gaming today and context-sensitive buttons. 4 player split screen was also awesome. The N64 did not do as well as everyone had hoped or suspected, not by a long shot. Maybe it was a failure, but I love that console.

The 64 controller and the majority of the 64's game library was horrible. So yes, it was a failure as a console and the beginning of nintendo's disconnect from gamers.

Name five bad games, I'll name ten good ones!

What if I name 149 bad ones?

In this day and age, with the Internet, ignorance is a choice! And they're still choosing Ignorance! - Dr. Filthy Frank

from a sales stand point. Comparing ti to its competitioin and even its predeccesors, yeah it kinda failed. Doesnt mean it was a bad console. I liked it.
