Forums - Nintendo - Smash Bros. Wii U sells over 490,000 units in the U.S., fastest-selling Wii U game ever

Well, I wouldn't really say first month cause I am sure there are a lot of people waiting for Black friday but I do agree that FW US alone might be a bit too much for 700k+ although, it does depend on how it will sell leading up to the second week cause this is holiday sales we are talking about and by nature, they should be higher than MK8's launch sales.

True. Mario Kart 8 sold 885K in 5 weeks, let's see how well Smash Bros. Wii U can do, although it will have an advantage of selling around the holidays. If it doesn't sell more than 885K by the end of the holidays, I'll be quite disappointed considering its advantage.

When they say U.S alone do they literally mean only the United States or all of North America?

Mario Kart 8 gave the U a 300% sales boost. If the same boost applies to Smash then the U could sell 100k+ on Smash Week.

I'm guessing it didn't since Nintendo probably would've mentioned that. They did when Mario Kart 8 came out.

They're probably saving that announcement for November NPD.

Would Canada sell on par with US based on population (roughly 11%)? If so that's another 53K sold there. But judging from the Amazon best selling list in Canada (Nintendo is dominating almost all of the spots) compared  to Amazon US (where Nintendo doesn't have much going on) I would think it might sell better generally in Canada.

If it does sell better than 11% would probably be somewhere between 15-20 so anywhere from 73K to 98K.
