Forums - Nintendo - Xenoblade's story "basic" compared to X, main script writer returning, other details

tbh I liked Xenoblade.

No sure if complexity is always a good thing. Sometimes japanese developers dont want to have a basic battle system so they fuck it up with nonsense so it is "complex".

Lets just hope they dont turn this into a nonsensical logic-error story that tries to be way to complex for its own good.

There is no doubt this game will be the a great appetizer of the JRPG on current gen games before Final Fantasy XV and other great title to come in the future. :)

This game is more than a mere apetizer.

a starter then or the one who will open the door the greateness of JRPG games for the next decade

because we will see more and more great games especially JRPG on future

Unfortunately they will all be worse than Xenoblade Chronicles X, sending jrpgs back to being niche for 9th gen...

Well i am not that pesimist,  games like Final Fantasy, Zelda, Star Ocean, Persona 5, Dragon quest will coming in the future. Jrpg is always niche to NA  consumer and more popular on europe and mainstream for asian people. So as long as Nintendo and PS brand is live long enough sooner or later there will be more coming.

Action JRPG

I always figured Kingdom Hearts, Tales of and Xenoblade action JRPG's, Legend of Zelda was always adventure puzzle solving. What's in a name though.

Well for me because i grew up on 80 there is only to type of rpg, first is create your own character and kill monster like dungeon and dragon style and second one  play on linear stories wether if its action or turn based battle.  Also  most of games which made by Japanese developer always have some unique arts and stories and western games typical standard generic,  and Zelda it's in Japanese unique category  in my opinion thou

"deep sci-fi" though?

The original science fiction stories dealt with how new possibilities through advances in technology would change how we as humans saw ourselves, and by extension how society would adapt to these views. They usually served as metaphorical political warnings for the contemporaries in powerful positions.

I'm not sure from watching the trailers for X that these are the themes I expect to see come through.

I expect there to be a lot of escapism and wish fulfillment going on, with some thin legged overarching political ideas to be in place to support a traditional Japanese story of radical individualism versus the power of community and self-sacrifice.

But I could stand being surprised.

Watch this.

For those who watch Attack on Titan, how's the music? Cos the same composer is working on X.

Like this.

Why did you cut to half-way into the song, the build up is part of the journey! :P
Excellent music though, no doubt exploring is going to be an absolute joy coupled with the soundtrack.

I very much enjoyed Xenoblade's story, the way it progressed and how all the little side stories affected everyone you encountered. These words of a deep sci-fi story sound promising, I just hope I can avoid spoilers with the Japanese release being earlier in the year.

Ah, I got ya.

Somewhat concerning. I liked the "basic" fantasy style of Xenoblade. It felt like classic FF to me. And it was fairly complex in its own right. I have faith this game will be outstanding, I just don't want to see this franchise get lost after an exceptional debut. (or re-debut)

In the case of Xenogears though, it worked for it.  There was so much plot and narrative in Xenogears that despite it being tiring occassionally it made the game that much more special.  Well that and the characters were awesome.

In the case of Xenosaga 2 it didn't work.  The storyline was garbage.  See what I did there?

No, what did you do there?  Show us, oh great pie in the sky.  Amen.

So you didn't like Xenosaga 2 then?  Never played it myself, but wouldn't it be better to go by more recent games made by Monolith Soft to see what they're capable of?  That is, if they do a longer, deeper story?
