However I have to agree with the OP that there are a lot of good games to play on Gen 8. Just about any game rated 80+ on Gen 8 is a treat to play.

2001 had it all. PS2 had an incredible first year followed by three!! new platform launches, Gba, Xbox and GameCube, plus amazing games for each. I don't think there will ever be another year as strong as 2001.

those were the days. GTA, FF, DMC, MGS, and Silent Hill all exclusive. No wonder PS2 dominated. Hated ICO though

That is a sick un rivaled line up but i personally didn't get all those games or even knew they existed at the time. For example MGS2 wass my first ever MG but I played it first in like 2004. GTA 3 I never owned and I didn't play Scary games.
For me in terms of the games I got the first year it's the PS4. Now that I have GTA 5 and Far Cry 4 in my collection I've a ridiculous number of PS4 games already. The fact some of them are multiplatform is irrelivant.
Definitely the 6th generation. PS2 had Devil May Cry, Gamecube had Resident Evil, & Xbox had Halo.
Ok, so maybe I'm a fan of Capcom.

I was thinking more about the first year of each console in each gen. So gen 6 would be the first year of DC, PS2, GC and Xbox separetely, etc.
BTW, sorry about my disappearance from the thread, was woking till now.

Well, this is only valid if you don't count the Japanese launch and even in the West it's more like the first full calendar year (Jan-Dec). But I'll take it.
I agree that was a very good start. I really enjoyed FFX, GTA3, MGS2, SH2 and DMC.
