No actually it makes perfect sense. Both games developed same time, giving it a real name would be wrong as they are 2 different ones, and most importantly, they are the 4 entry to the franchise. Hence the SSB "for" 4 WiiU/3DS.
And like Nikkom said, its too easy to differentiate, no confusion unless.... yehhhhhhh :0

At least acknowledge the pun and make it "Super Smash Bros 4 3DS" and "Super Smash Bros 4 WiiU"
It's not a lame name... It's a horrible one.
"I've Underestimated the Horse Power from Mario Kart 8, I'll Never Doubt the WiiU's Engine Again"
Having the exact same name (e.g, Rumble) for both versions would be stupid.
This is simple, effective and not confusing. Plus, the alternative colours in the logo are nice.
I really do wish they'd gone with something else, or at the very least made it "Super Smash Bros. 4 Wii U/3DS" because that's what everyone is going to call it, Super Smash Bros. 4.
I feel like they thought some people would be too stupid to differentiate them otherwise.
If so, they're probably right.
I was going to say the name was stupid, but after reading the comments I realise that releasing two games on the two systems forced them to simplify things.
