Forums - Sony Discussion - Did Sony get too cocky not matching the Xbone's price drop this holiday season?

Nope, PS4 doesn't have to beat XB1 when it's at a temporary peak.

My view is XB1 seems to have a very weak 1st half of 2015, maybe even longer, so they had to throw in all their chips this November to make the most of Halo and holiday sales before their big quiet period next year.

Who are you kidding.  X1 would need to sale at least 70% what PS4 is selling world wide to be serious comp and its neevr going to do that.

They arent fools to overreact to a short term spike due to price cut bundles and seasonal bump.

Overreact? They haven't really reacted.

Sony was very competitive with PS2 because they wanted to make sure other platforms stayed irrelevant.

Nearly everyone I know is getting Xbones now because of the recent price cuts and the Ass Creed Unity bundle has been on top of the PS4 on Amazon for about 2 weeks now.

Is it possible that the PS4 raging success caused them to have a bit of PS3 syndrome where they thought people would pay more just because it has the better specs and the Sony logo on it?

I feel like they're in danger of letting MS back in the console war if this price drop is left unanswered and I'm not sure the GTAV bundle will make up for it.

Sony is the new king, they don't need to lower the price.  MS is in trouble, losing in their own territory and being utterly crushed in all the other territories.

Who do you think need a price cut and crazy deals ?  MS maybe ?  PS4 has roughly twice the userbase of XOne, Sony can watch from the obove and make a move whenever they want ;)   and kill XOne.  Don't be anxious like Microsoft.

They were irrelevent two years before they came out.

The way I see it, there's two possibilities.

1: Sony doesn't see the Xbox One as a threat. They won't do any price drops except for when a price drop would typically happen (such as a Slim model launch).

Or

2: Sony knows that this isn't a war that requires fast responses to every move their opponent makes. In reality, the console "war" is more like a poker game. You have to know when to play your cards at the right time, and it usually isn't a good idea to go "all-in" too early. Sony may decide strike when the Xbox One is at its weakest (For example, if its price goes back up in January)

They are not going to magically sell 1 million consoles every week in case of a price cut. There would be stock issues. Sales are fine the way it is.

Let me put it this way, the less X1's sold the more irrelevant it becomes. Since Sony isn't attempting to slow down X1 sales so the console is gaining relevance and that makes the console more desireable.

For PS1 and PS2 Sony was very competitive with money hatting games and price. Why? They wanted to keep competition as irrelevant as possible. That worked harder than necessary to kill the competition.

Remember, Sony sacrificed billions just to compete with the Xbox 360. Its debatable whether or not the PS3 was a success.

So by your logic, if microsoft continue with their agressive sales, the Xbox One will never be a success because of how much it'll cost microsoft, right, gotcha.

I doubt MS is sacrificing the kind of money on X1 Sony sacrificed on PS3. Sony was losing hundred of dollars on each unit sold and had to do price cuts almost year after year.

They were losing billions even while PS2 and PSP were selling in droves.
