Forums - Nintendo - Bloomberg: Nintendo says Smash Wii U has more pre-orders than MK8.

Advance orders for Super Smash Bros., being released by Nintendo Co. (7974) this month, are at a record and may lift sales of the struggling Wii U console during the holidays, Americas President Reggie Fils-Aime said.

Presales of Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, which reaches stores on Nov. 21, have surpassed Mario Kart 8, Fils-Aime, president and chief operating officer of Nintendo of America, said today in an interview at the New York headquarters of Bloomberg News.

“The launch of Mario Kart 8 has essentially doubled our Wii U sales year-on-year,” Fils-Aime said. “Presales for Smash are stronger than the presales for Kart. So our expectation is that the sell-through for Smash is going to be very strong, certainly on par with what we saw with Mario Kart 8. We think the impact on hardware will be similarly dramatic.”

Nintendo has sold more than 1.2 million copies of Mario Kart 8 for the Wii U since its release earlier this year, Fils-Aime said.

Not surprising. I've been saying it for a while, I think Smash is outselling Mario Kart on the Wii U.

I think 8-player smash really distinguished itself as a game compared to its portable brother, so a lot of people who weren't sure about double-dipping got the push they needed

SSB 3DS is the appetizer for the meal :)

I dunno if would make sense for retailers to order more copies of Smash since it's a game launching in the holiday season, versus MK8 which launched in May. In the long term MK8 will still end up on top.

Vgc pre-orders be like... Nope, we think MK8 has more pre-orders than SSB :/

PC Specs: CPU: 7800X3D || GPU: Strix 4090 || RAM: 32GB DDR5 6000 || Main SSD: WD 2TB SN850

Hopefully by large margin. The game will do good this Holidays.

.....Can I just have this game now please?

I think that's a pretty good prediction. I'm inclined to agree with you. It seems like there is more enthusiasm from people surrounding this game than Mario Kart 8. Mario Kart 8 is fun, but Smash is a must have.

At bold: I really don't like saying "hype", but that's basically what I was trying to say. I wish there was a better way to say it.

I bet the Wii U would sell more than 15M LTD by the end of 2015. He bet it would sell less. I lost.
