Smash, Far Cry 4, Ori and LittleBigPlanet 3 are the only contenders left.

Toad.

Has a good chance of being a critical darling and its this year for NA.

Yeah forgot about Toad, looks like a 90+ game, no lie.

I love Toad, I hope it does really well. But Famitsu said it was short and easy? I dunno, didn't think 2D platformers on Nintendo scored 90+?

2D Platformer? Its a 3D Puzzler bro

Famitsu reviews are apparently irrelevant.

Yeah, Famitsu gave Assasins Creed: Unity a 37/40. I don't think Captain Toad will receive anywhere near a 90%+, but I do hope it's around 85%. Reviewers will just hate on this game for being different than most other games.

Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze is one of my favorite Wii U games and yet that only scored 83%. :(

There's just so much secrets, easter eggs  in that game, Retro Studios have so much attention for detail. You can find a gramaphone playing the original Donkey Kong Country theme, Samus' spaceship in the background of Busted Bayou, TV screens that display Donkey Kong Country Returns and Tropical Freeze (complete with the DKC: Returns main theme), the idle animation of Donkey Kong playing a 3DS where you can actually hear the real sound of him playing an assortment of 3DS games (including playing as himself in Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D!), the sixth world is one big nod to Donkey Kong Country Returns (for example the giant bat that's frozen in the rocket barrel level), a giant retro Donkey Kong in the background holding a Wii U gamepad, a Zelda reference in Funky's shop (the shield, it's dangerous to go alone...), etc

Or not being a Mario Game^

Look up DK:TF (not a metroid game)

It is isn't it, I dunno why I said 2D. Well we shall see!

Game of the year for sure. (Unless Smash can beat it.)

I have high hopes for Yoshi's Woolly World receiving a good metacritic score. Kirby's Epic Yarn received high in the 80s and the main complaint was that the game wasn't really a Kirby game and that it was too easy (you couldn't die). Yoshi's Woolly World seems to fix those issues: you can die and it definitely plays as a Yoshi game but with some neat gameplay additions thanks to the yarn aesthetic.

Awesome!
Though I think Smash will also get a high score.

So far.

All the big games are out aside for a few. Also all year there arent exactly that much 90+ that arent ports/remakes/etc.

LBP got a 95 on meta, and LBP 2 got a 91.  Let's wait and see...

Only so many times a set of creation tools can save average platforming so I could see it getting somewhere in the 80s with the way reviewers seem to be getting harsher. Hopefully they've tweaked the actual game mechanics for the 3rd becuase, while I really like the concept of the game, it just feels clunky as hell.

Frankly I am gonna have to disagree with the "Clunky" statements.  I have never felt the platforming was any worse than any other platformer (Although the gravity is adjustable).  Also, as far as I can tell this game has far more enhancments/changes over 2 than 2 had over 1.  It has also been a very long time since the last one came out.

However I am worried they won't market it enough, or well enough for that matter.  Their current comercials seem kinda lame to me.

i think metacritic should sack out the 10% best and 10% worst grades and mean the rest.
i think it would be more fair.

I agree. Theres always someone wanting to pull personal agendas "cough polygon cough".

I imagine Bayonetta 2 would have an even bigger meta if not for that.

Definitely, you're always meant to factor out the extremities.

RIP Dad 25/11/51 - 13/12/13. You will be missed but never forgotten.
