Forums - Gaming Discussion - The Discussion Thread! *Greatest Games Event 2014* (The Top 500 Games Will Now Be Chosen)

I'm a bit behind:

#29: God of War 2 - took the great combat and spectacle of the first and improved upon it. God of War on PS4 will be insane

#28: Persona 4 Golden - First Persona game, loved it. The social elements were great, the characters are well written and likable, and the Persona system is a good way of improving the otherwise slightly basic turn-based combat

#27: Gran Turismo 6 - Just a great racing game. Looked great on PS3, great handling model and tons of cars and events

#26: GTA Vice City - It's GTA, with the best city and soundtrack the series has produced

Hint #26:

A developer named after their own flagship franchise took a generation break to make this game instead.

Second Hint #26:

It was 2.5D.

Klonoa: Door to Phantomile?

   Theme Hospital

   System: PC
   Genre: Business Management
   Year: 1997
   Rank last year: 32 (^ 7)

A very unique game by a developer that was known for it's unique games. Sadly, they're not around anymore. Theme Hospital is to me their magnus opum and I made sure pretty much everyone in my immediate surrounding knew of it's existance, though many of their other games are worth noting as well.

The game puts the player in charge of a hospital in a world where people get the strangest diseases imaginable. With a giant dose of good humour, the player must try to not get distracted and build and manage their hospital to great success each level. At first this is not that hard, but later on the game will get hectic and difficult. The game's originality and unique nature has forever cemented it firmly in my mind. Every once in a while I'll go back and replay some of it, and every time I'm convinced this belongs in a list of 'greatest games ever made'.

Game #24

This game does a good job of keeping the player on their toes through story, though it sacrifices it's predecessor's non-linearity.

Hint for my #24: It doesn't matter how much you've done thru your path, you'll still get the same ending as everyone else.

Hint for #24
Great villain but he wasn't in the whole game

Once in a while, a game comes along. A game you were never expecting, but for some reason or another it catches your eye. For me, Child of Light caught me with it's incredible use of the UbiArt engine. I was never a fan of traditional, multi-member party JRPGs, but with that art style, and that music... I knew I would enjoy the game just for those elements. What I wasn't expecting for the game to blow me away in every facet of its design. The battle system was unique and always engaging. Your fellow party members were not just talking heads, but offered new ways to engage enemies and proved to be fast friends to Aurora. The story was simple and sweet, and given life through the rythmic patterns of the dialogue. But it was the two elements that caught me from the get go... they did so much than just catch my eye or my ear. They impacted me on a personal level. They even inspired me. Coeur de Pirate's score is incredible. Simply incredible. And the world that they created in Lemuria is stunning. There were moments where I was just content to put down my controller and just be part of what was on my T.V. screen and what was coming out the speakers. Sometimes gaming throws a curveball at you, something you don't expect. Child of Light was such a wonderful surprise for me. And it's games like this we need to cherish the most.
