Otaku seems to be a broad, encompassing term, like 'gamer', so let's just set that aside for now.

From what I can gather, 2channel was being misrepresented by Matome-blog, its posts being taken out of context and blown out of proportion, not unlike a LW cherrypicking a post from 8chan.

Matome-blog appears to be using its influence to pursue an agenda, perhaps advertising themselves to act like they speak for all otakus. The author's term for this shady/corrupt journalism is 'yellow journalism'.

There was a resistance against this yellow journalism, and they were named by their enemies as "Kenmo", meaning people hating profit, a name which they proudly adopted.

One of the practices the Kenmo are against is called "sutema", meaning a company that pretends to be consumers and advertises a product.

A change in management of 2channel spawned another struggle. The old manager, Hiroyuki, was replaced by a new one, known as JIM. Hiroyuki was then found out to have connections to many companies, selling information logged on 2channel to the highest bidder. Once Hiroyuki was no longer manager, he made a fake 2channel website, 2ch.sc, designed to replicate information on the real website, 2ch.net, so he could continue selling it.

The Kenmo were fucking pissed.

But wait, there's more! It appears Hiroyuki wanted to remain in charge, so he tried to have 2ch.net hacked and destroyed so that the people who use that site would have to go to his 2ch.sc

Thanks to Jim, someone named Codemonkey, and the rest of the Kenmo, 2ch.net was able to survive.

But their struggle seems to be far from over, even now, the yellow journalism persists and there are those who would want to sell the Kenmo's information for their own personal gain.

If any Kenmo do stop by here at 8chan, we should treat them well. They've seen some shit.

What he probably means is: "The media are sell-outs."

GamerGate is a movement of gamers pushing for more ethics in game journalism, sparked by the anti-gamer articles of some news sites. It has often been dismissed or discredited because of trollsfactions supposedly in the group who are sending death threats and acting like the kind of person that validates being "culturally attacked".

Despite clearly not sharing the goals of the core members of the group, ignorant people tend to side with the media generalizing them all and demonizing them in the same way that many people where afraid of muslims after 911, rather than forming their own opinions on the group.

OT: Since its happening in Japan, the 3rd largest gaming industry, and US, the largest, clearly that shows that the call for ethics isn't being made for purely misogynistic, nationalistic, right wing extremist hiveminded and white male reasons.

It's basically a bunch of people calling for ethics in journalism, a vocal subgroup of said people being aggressive, misogynist, and hateful about women in gaming and anyone not agreeing with them. On the opposing side are all-knowing, angry, and hateful radical feminists ready to burn everyone who doesn't agree with them. So basically it's a bunch fools cheated into crying for ethics in journalism (which itself is an honorable goal, just not working as intended right now) and two very vocal groups of idiots hating everyone except themselves.
