Forums - Nintendo - There is something fishy about the MM3d development time...

Which one seems the logical choice?

Option 3 6 5.77%

Option 1 14 13.46%

Option 4 33 31.73%

Option 5... just kidding 21 20.19%

Option 2. 30 28.85%

Total:104

from day 1 nintendo just starts 'thinking' about a game its literally in development.

I also say number two, although not exactly.

I think Nintendo is saying has been in development since 2011 because of the idea, as that's when they came up with the idea to develop it, but they didn't want to release the game in such a close proximity to Ocarina of Time and steal away the interest of Wind Waker HD, so they held off on actually developing the game until later.

I highly doubt it took three years considering it has the same textures as Ocarina of Time. Either they had the idea of the game since 2011, or they finished it up already and they're releasing it now because they wanted to make sure Wind Waker HD got all the sales it could.

This.

2) is the closest, but I also think we might consider this a 'white lie'. While the idea of this might have been around since 2011, I don't really believe that they started real work on this until very recently, probably after E3. WWHD took them 6 months to do. Considering that they can build this off the OoT engine, if anything this could take less time.

I think option 4 is a fair choice. If not, then they really took thier time with it and with a small team.

Maybe even temporarily halt development for a few months.

It is indeed strange that they took so much time to port it. My guess is that this is another Starfox situation: start messing with it, then put it down and pick it back up again to really finish it.

In MM 3D case, they put it down due to 3 projects with higher priority: Wind Waker remake; Link between worlds and Zelda U.

That, to me, is the only explanation.

Firstly its Grezzo making it so no more than 50 people (wiki has them at 46).
Secondly they had 2 smaller projects between OoT and MM, so the whole studio hasnt been on it since OoT.
Thirdly they are trying to make it more accessable to new players so they may have fixed some issues that others have mentioned which can take some time.
Forth, porting from N64>3DS isnt like GCN>WiiU.
Fifth, the expansion pack was required on N64 version which may have lead to some issues when using the OoT 3D port as their base for MM3D.
Anyway those are my reasonings

Except the team working on MM3D (Grezzo) had nothing to do with any of those projects.

Because the developer(Grezzo) is a small team & Nintendo ended up remake or refresh brand new game other than porting from N64 to 3DS due to complete different code & unable to translate, so you know wanna why Wind Waker is easy port... Because GCN, Wii & Wii U are IBM CPU & ATI/AMD GPU.

Did Grezzo or Nintendo confirmed it or did someone altered the article assuming that?
But if it's like the Ocarina of Time 3D game, it was also co-developed by Nintendo, if i'm not mistaken. So the Zelda team might have put some man hours into it.

And even if it's a Grezzo only production, it's weird that it took them this long.

Or, none of the above and you haven't thought this through.

Maybe Majora's Mask 3D only entered development 12 to 18 months ago? When was there the job listing for Grezzo? Not two or three years ago, I think.

EDIT: It may have had a very quick development time. The job listing appeared in June of this year: http://gimmegimmegames.com/2014/06/grezzo-job-listing-hints-zelda-game-development/

SECOND EDIT: I completely missed the Eiji Aonuma announcement to which this thread is obviously a response. Apologies. Maybe everyone at Grezzo is just really, really drunk?
